You can’t help but laugh….I wish they had them here!

The council in Manchester installed some retractable bollards to stop people using bus lanes. It's causing a bit of uproar with the public.

PS keep an eye on the windscreen of the white van

That has to be the worst traffic control idea i've ever seen! blink.gif

Ubelievable.

Truthfully if you are behind the bus and the bus moves you really aren't to know they are there.

Why do the cars seem to think they can make it through? wacko.gif

Thats great Dadagain!
JRA
Jaydesmum, they may not have seen them. If sitting behind a bus there is no way you can see what is in front of the bus.

There are fairly big signs saying not to go through.

I kinda got the impression that the cars were trying to sneak through after the buses knowing they were not to, by the speed of them.

Exactly.

When I watched the first bit I thought that's not a bad idea, but after watching the whole thing, I have changed my mind.

How about the people on the sidewalk with their prams etc?

There are some real idiotic drivers around the place.

perhaps a bit extreme. I partially love the idea and think its great, but in practice, if you were unfamiliar with the area it would be easy to come across them accidently.

Thanks for sharing though DadAgain, will pass the link onto a few people...

oh come on - get real. There are huge illuminated signs, a severe restriction in the width of the road (which can be seen regardless of how closely your are tailing the bus) and the road surface has been STRIPED to provide further indication that this is not a normal roadway!

There is NO WAY these incidents are accidents - they are ALL people deliberately and with prior calculation attempting to bypass the system and knowingly drive on roads that they are NOT permitted to drive on! Good on the engineers for finding a way of getting the bollards to work fast enough that these 'cheats' cant get through!!

..and another thing - I bet after 1 week of this being in place EVERYONE in Manchester knew about it (via news reports, viral emailing of clips like this etc etc) and NOBODY attempts to follow the buses any more!!..

Well done Manchester! great idea! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I think that's fabulous!

Those who think it's dangerous need to watch the clip again from the start. Those 2 huge orange signs either side of the intersection are warning signs! Don't people read anymore?

I agree with the PP who suggested that these fools were tailgating the buses to try and get down the lane after them. Sucked in.

I want to know what happened inside that people mover to cause all the smoke though!
