Hi there,
At the moment DS1 goes to preschool one day a week, $22 for the day. A friend of mine told me she is going to put her child (same age) into Long Day Care next year, which have a preschool room, as it works out cheaper due to LDC being eligable for CCB.
The LDC charges $47/day, my rebate rate is 90.91%. When i rung centrelink they said they only rebate 90.91% of $2.96/hr. I am confused as they charge per day not per hour? But if i went off 8hrs, it would be approx $25/day (so, more expensive than preschool) But my friend who's CCB is the same amount as me, has been told she will only have to pay approx $4/day after rebate.
I am so confused, where have i got mixed up???

You seem to be working it our right, unless your friend is taking the full 12 hour day that a LDC usually opens as her entitlement, but even that works out to $15 odd a day. I think CCB only caters for 10 hours max a day though, I know it is 50 hours per week for someone working fulltime
I think your friend may have got the wrong info, If you do your percentage of the total amount it works out to about $4 per day. She may not understand the rebate is only on what the government deem a fair hourly rate (which absolutlely no child care provider charges, most are about double that). What you have worked out is what I work out. I have a formula I made up to work all mine out and it has always been right for me.
I'd stick with what you're doing, I think you'll find she gets a rude shock with her 1st bill.

Hi
I agree with PP
Your calculations appear to be correct and I feel your friend may have been misinformed/misled.
I was advised by the Family Assistance Office that the LDC is entitled to tally your total daily hours as the full 12 hours even if your child only attends for 3 or 4 hours. Thus the minimum 24 hours of childcare everyone is entitled to weekly could only be 2 days.
