Another huge Survivor fan. Hi Jen1 - I remember you from last series
So glad to have Jeff back on our screens.
I think its going to be a great season. I love the division between the luxury beach & those with nothing. I felt SO sorry for Rotu (?) when they lost the challenge again. That would suck bigtime.
The first episode I really disliked Rocky but now I think he's going to be one of those interesting characters. And love Yau-Man. Oh, and Earl too, like him so far.
It just is so annoying its on so late on Sundays. Oh well, at least I can tape it & not watch ads
Anyone want to make an early call on final 3 ?

Hey WizzFizz, we are definately Survivor addicts hey

Nice to see you again
I like Earl and Yau-man, I am not liking Rocky at all.
Not sure who will be in the final three....

I am taping the shows and watched both eps twice (so far). Really like Earl, didnt go much on Rocky, but now I think he's pretty funny. I like Boo as well, he was so accident prone and when the hammock collapsed it was hysterical. Dreamz is kind of annoying and endearing at the same time. Cant get a handle on any girls yet except poor Sylvia, I think she's just too smart for everyone and too stupid not to show it!!
My final 3 that I would like to see would be Earl, Boo and Dreamz.

Too tired to watch the end of it on Sunday, and then it recorded badly (the dvd was all scratched up) so missed tribal council.
So I am assuming that Erica was voted out? I agree on that she was strong, but just kind of lost it, probably deserved another chance I reckon.

That was so funny!! Couldn't believe it, especially as I know someone who is just like him

How many episodes has there been? I saw the one with Erica being voted off but missed any before that. If anyone has them on VCR or DVD I would love you forever if I could get a copy.
I feel so silly. I had a read a while ago that Survivor Fiji wasn't being shown in Oz so when I saw the thread on it started recently I didn't read it as I didn't want to find any spoilers - I 'thought' that the thread must have been people who had downloaded it or had Pay TV.
I was so grrrrr to realise that it was being shown here (I somehow missed all advertising - too much time on EB and not enough watching TV or reading) and so I made sure I watched this week.
I am not sure who I like/dislike as only seeing the one episode and trying to figure out who was who and what I had missed was hard.

You've only missed one episode, and most of the people you saw in the second episode were the same ones that you saw in the first episode. There are so many people that some of them just seem to get missed unless/until they are being talked about for nomination at tribal council. All you really missed in episode one was them building the camp at Moto with Sylvia (an architect) taking charge of reading the plans that were provided and then being accused of being bossy. And the only person you missed was a girl called Jessica who was voted out pretty much on the basis of not untying knots fast enough in the immunity challenge.

I find in the first few episodes of survivor, that I can't remember who is who until further into the game. There is definately too many to remember, a bit like Australian Idol etc, always know them when it is a smaller group left.
Another one who missed the first episode
Watched my tape of the most recent episode last night and thought there is something odd about the 'cast' this season. Then I worked it out - has anyone else noticed that there is not a single blonde person!! Being a brunette myself I am not at all concerned about it

but its actually quite weird seeing a group of people with out a full mix of colourings.

I thought the same thing KTB there are lots of Asian and Black contestants but doesn't seem to be the usual college student all american type.
Can somebody please explain why Sylvia (Asian architect) ended up coming to the 'poor' tribe late.
The game started with 19 contestants. She was chosen to split the tribes after the first couple of days as she showed great leadership supposedly. As a reward she got immunity but as a penalty she was sent to Exile Island before the challenge and was told she would rejoin the losing team (as they would have voted out one member and she would fill that gap). What she didnt know was that the losing team would be sent to a new island and would have to start again (re shelter etc).

I hadnt noticed the lack of blondes, but I had noticed that like the last season there was more a mix of people, and figure one of the 'other' contestants chickened out:
5 african americans
5 asians
5 'white'
4 'other' (Rocky italian-american, Rita ?? hispanic etc)
Roll on Survivor Sunday!!

Fairly unsurprisingly the have-nots (ie Ravu) lost the reward challenge, which was sliding down a slip-n-slide to grab a numbered ball and then throw it into a netball net, and Moto took a second set of fishing gear. They sent Sylvia back to Exile Island where the clues told her that the hidden immunity idol is back at camp, buried under the highest part of opening of the cave their camp is in front of. Basically to find it you have to know exactly where you are digging and hide the fact that you are digging. Then Ravu lost the immunity challenge as well so Sylvia spent the afternoon trying to casually dig for the immunity idol. She didn't find it and she was voted out at tribal council for being too bossy.
ETA The big news was that Michelle worked out how to get fire by using someone's glasses and sunlight. Once they'd started a fire themselves Jeff gave them flint so at least now they can start boiling water to drink.

I have found it a pretty boring season so far TBH.

Kodi,
We've only had a couple of episodes. Can understand you not knowing it was on. Channel 9 sucks & they just keep putting the good shows on later & later & hardly advertising. It's a wonder they bother with Survivor at all really given the timeslot.
In short, there are 2 tribes. "Moto" - who are living in luxury with great accomodation, lots of food, fire etc & are winning everything. "Ravu" - who are the "have nots" and are living the usual Survivor experience. They have only just gotten fire so have been struggling with lack of water, food etc. They have lost all the challenges so far & as a result have lost 3 members (no-one particularly exciting though).
Exile Island (which is full of venomous sea snakes) has provided clues so far basically saying that the immunity idol (there are 2 of them this series) is hidden back at camp. No-one has found it yet.
I'm enjoying the series so far, there are some interestig characters and good challenges. And Jeff is there like usual which makes it all worthwhile
Don't worry, early days & you'll pick it up. I find Survivor doesn't usually start getting really good until about week 6 or 7 once we get to know the people a bit better.
HTH.

The short version is:
QUOTE
So in case you're keeping track, here's what Survivor has to teach us this season: if you feed some people and give them water and beds and shelter and comfort, then they will perform in various tasks notably better than people who aren't eating and can't sleep. This week, we learn this as Ravu first drops an immunity challenge due to poor balance (wait, you mean when they're exhausted from terrible conditions, their balance isn't as good as that of people with comfortable blankets and pillows? You don't say!), which gives Moto even more food and even more pillows and sends Yau Man to Exile Island. Gary then quits the game owing to his deteriorating condition, and Lisi is basically like, "I don't care," which begins the theme of the week, which is: Lisi sucks. Ravu continues fighting back at camp, where Rocky has declared open war on Anthony, telling Anthony that he doesn't act enough like a man. Seriously. It's just as bad as you think. And unfortunately, it's totally bothering Anthony, too. At the immunity challenge, it's a flat-out physical challenge that drops Ravu on its ass. Moto learns after the challenge that they have a choice: vote someone off or give up the good camp. And because they're wussies, they choose to keep their camp and make their team smaller. Not only that, but Lisi and Stacy, who are aligned with Alex and Boo and Edgardo, convince their "alliance" to vote off Liliana (who?), because it turns out that Lisi engages in ethnic stereotypes even against groups she is a part of, and thinks Liliana can't be trusted. So for no particular reason, Liliana gets the boot, instead of someone who has sat out multiple challenges already for sucking. Like Lisi. It's hard to care right now.

Having seen all of this series, I too was about to give up watching it as I was so so bored. Then on the episode I said would be my last, (maybe episode 5?) it changed, totally and now I think it is one of the best survivor series yet!
So hang in there, it is really, really worth it!

Jen & WaitingMum - so if it's episode 5 that everything gets great is that next week ??!? Can't wait.
I am enjoying the series (I always do anyway) but it is frustrating that Ravu keeps losing everything. I hope it turns around soon.
It'd be interesting to see a survivor with one group right from the beginning - every man/woman for themself.

Is Lilliana the older African American lady?
I think the chosing to vote out was a bad mistake - I can just see them now going on a huge losing streak and Ravu will start to win some challenges.
Moto don't really seem to be experiencing the full 'Survivor' treatment iykwim it really does seem like a cheap backpacker style holiday in Fiji.
Come on Ravu win a challenge...

Liliana was one of the Hispanic chicks. Apparently Lisi wanted to get rid of her because she knew how her "sneaky Hispanic mind" worked, and the young Asian chick Stacy wanted to get rid of her because she wanted to be the hottest chick on Moto beach.
The episodes mentioned earlier in the thread, the ones that make it all worth watching Ravu being tortured, don't happen for at least another 2 weeks.

EPISODE 10.... Absolute gold.... if you've EVER enjoyed survivor then this was THE episode to watch!
So assuming the aussie networks dont go off on one of their unexplained season breaks (which are so common many of us have abandonned their broadcasts in favour of more reliable, higher quality illegal services), you need to hang on in there for 6 more weeks before all of a sudden the game springs into life!

You really didn't miss much, Ravu lost everything as usual and it was hard to watch them suffer AGAIN!!! Earl went to exile island and came back for the immunity challenge- which they lost. They voted out Rita (basically because she talked about crap all, all the time!!).
I think it may start to get interesting next week as in the preview it showed them all dropping their buffs and forming 2 new tribes and then picking which one gets the good camp!
Sorry I HTH but I am crap at recaps!!

Short version -
QUOTE
This week on Survivor, the hungry, exhausted people lose two challenges to the well-fed, well-rested people, and Ravu continues to purge itself of women. Do we really need to say more? Well, okay. Yau Man and Earl collaborate on trying to find the idol, to no avail. A reward challenge involving Sumo wrestling is an even bigger joke -- given the tribe's completely different physical conditions -- than most challenges are at this point, and Moto smokes Ravu and goes home with a haul of stuff. At Couch Camp, Alex and Edgardo suddenly realize that all the other members of their alliance are big dumb jerks, and that Cassandra and Dreamz are being treated like so much sneaker-sole poo, and are therefore sure to bail as soon as the merge comes, which will be a problem even if Moto loses no one from here to the merge. Stacy and Lisi are enormous b**ches and don't get it, and Boo is a plain old idiot and doesn't get it, so Alex and Edgardo are seriously beginning to rethink their positions. At the immunity challenge, Ravu finds that the mind grows fuzzy when the body is unfed, and they lose again, though they actually come very close to pulling it out. Brief consideration is given to getting rid of Rocky, which is what they should do, but instead, they just continue peeling off the women, this time getting rid of Rita for talking too much. It's not a great season to be a woman with a mind of her own. In fact, between the smug bullying and the ridiculously stacked deck in challenges, it's not a great season in general. It may be the first genuinely bad -- as in, genuinely not entertaining -- season the show has ever had. Whee!

Also want to add to the above recap, that Dreamz is not fooled by their sudden change of heart when they start being nicer and has said that he and Cassandra will flip on their team at the merge.
I think the impromptu change up next week might actually change things a bit YAY (well,I hope so)

Nope,he'd have been sent off for a time out here too.Seriously my 4 yr old can exhibit better social skills than him at times.
Bet he'd make a charming boyfriend

. Love the way he had to qualify that he likes women to "touch and make out with" but not for much else. If he wasn't so puny,I'd suspect he was on steroids from the agression that comes out of him.
And yes,I know,I know, they are only showing the one side of Rocky that makes it more interesting TV and so on,yada yada, but I have my doubts about the depth of his personality.
Yep,I think they should have axed Rocky as he will make life unpleasant for all at camp Ravu (?,I think he is Ravu)
But I can't believe that the 4 others still there had the hide to call Anthony gutless bahind his backaround camp and then keep quiet even when they thought Rocky went too far at tribal council.Talk about pot and kettle
And now they are stuck with Lisi even though they chose no females
At least its starting to get interesting though.
