Hi everyone,
I went to see my midwife on Friday and informed her of some low pressure I had been feeling.
She had a feel of my tummy and said I Baby was engaged and 1/5 above the brim.
MY QUESTION.....

Does anyone know if this means labour is close by...?
I was really excited but not sure wether I am getting my hopes up, either way I don't have long to go now but I just want her out of me, I am dying to meet her.
Any help would be great, thanks so much...

Hi,
I was having a look through my many pregnancy books and found this info for you...

"Many woman beginlabour at a -1 or 0 station meaning that some decent has already taken place. Other terms used to describe the desent include lightening or dropping. The desent can take place several weeks before the onset of labour (though this is not always the case. It is not unusual for labour to begin with the baby still floating or still high up in the pelvis."

Hope this helps a little. I guess it just depends. ds was 2/5ths before I went into labour, trwo days before his due date.

I think i was around 3 when they checked to induce me , they told me that
-1 was still floating ,
0 is locked into position ,
1 is on its way down
and 2 is almost there ,
3 is ready to go ,
4 is labour when your cervix opens up and
5 is when the head passes through

I think that is correct if memory serves me.

Hi again,
thanks for your input ladies....
I was trying to find some stuff on the net but couldn't find exactly what I wanted to know.
I did find that with second pregnancy or more the Baby can engage shortly before labour but that's all I could really find.
It also says that it can happen weeks before so all I can do is wait...
The last weeks go far to slow for my liking but there is nothing I can really do about it.
I had a short cervix at 28 weeks but at 32 it was still closed so the Doctor has stopped checking, I also have a Biocornuate uterus so I am hoping that with all these factors put together I might be lucky and have her sooner.
I am just over 35 weeks now so it would be great to have her at 37 or 38, I sure wouldn't complain if I had her now (as long as she was healthy)

Thanks so much to all who reply....
