see ................. what happens?????????
I'm only home for 2 days and we get re-threaded!!! laughing2.gif laughing2.gif

You girls have got to chat more when I'm away tongue.gif

The duckin' f*** is almost finished.
Fiesty
ROFL @ duckin f***

Well, I haven't sewn up the pink soaker I did for DD yet, because I am still debating to embellish or not to embellish. And meanwhile back at the ranch have started something else lol. Have a wee bit of tiger cub left over, enough for a beanie for DS I am thinking, if I add some black to the mix. So it's off to the woollen mills for me this afternoon.
(Mac is currently walking around the house looking for wallet and stuff - he is unaware of my plans to go to the mills as yet, and will roll his eyes when he finds out but as I'll be driving, I'm not seeing how he has any choice in the matter at all. lol!)

Will take some eyecandy pics this afternoon when I get home from down the street, and you can all tell me wether or not you think the pink soaker needs embellishing and if you think it does, what to reccomend. My brain is totally on the blink you see.

(excuse constant and blatant ramble, I have a feeling my blood sugar levels have just gone through the roof and as a result I resemble a squirrel on speed.. best go do something about that! lol)
mamasue
*drum roll please*

duckin' f***??
Plucka Duck??

Tara, did you post pics of the Tiger Cub finished??? I didn't see if you did.
Can you again please hands.gif
Tanya82
very cute pluckin f**k duck Sue grin.gif laughing2.gif

I am thinking i'll get back into the vest and flirty skirty tonight after some more shirring

we're having fish for dinner tonight- DH caught it today- mmmmm yuuuuuummmm
mamasue
yum, fresh fish.

Speaking of which - Plucka looks like he's got botoxed trout lips for a bill laughing2.gif laughing2.gif
they don't look like that IRL ... honest!
~*Dana*~
It's fish here tonight as well, except it's Basa from woolies laughing2.gif I've done one leg of crochet, will get the other one done this arvo biggrin.gif

ROFL at the trout lips comment Sue! I didn't even notice until you pointed it out wink.gif I'm sure he's just gorgeous IRL!
eshee
I have decided to try the knitty blu jeans. I have some sean sheep in a Denim colour so thought that might work. The pattern is a little scary especially re: sewing up but I think I know someone that is familiar with that pattern if I get stuck grin.gif

I am just doing a gauge square as the yarn says knit on 7mm needles but that seems way too large. I am going to use 4mm and see what size it comes to.

I am soooooo impatient. I hate knitting gauge squares blush.gif

Yum, fish!
~*Dana*~
I think Sean Sheep is knitted on 4.5-5mm isn't it? Good luck, can't wait to see some progress shots biggrin.gif
Fiesty
I hope you all enjoy your fish. Trust me, I'll be leaving plenty in the sea for you lol. Not a huge fish fan here. (Doesn't help that I am allergic to shellfish, so prefer to avoid the whole deal really lol)

My plan was thwarted!! Mac got wind of the mills trip when I turned left instead instead of right and decreed we get everything else we needed to get done first. And then dawdled. As a result we just got home and the mills are shut. Grrrr.

Sue, nope hadn't posted a pic of finished Tigers yet, will do so tonight. It's on what we around here call Mam's list, which seems to get longer as they day wears on rather than shorter. Currently sitting on the list (in no particular order) is:
Ring up and order dinner, go down and pick up.
Give kids baths, bottles and put in bed.
Throw on another one or two lods of washing.
Do the dishes.
Write out email with invites to a BBQ for DS's birthday.
Make up list of people to be asked and send the email.
Post pics of finished objects and things in here.
Post pics of remaining clothes for sale in photobucket and update trading room listing.
Package up and address items I put up for freebie thingie.
Sew up and / or embellish DD's soaker.
Get cracking on DS's beanie.
Watch Californication.

So - please please people - tell me I am not alone in my obsessive list making in my head. What does your list look like? (Now I have typed it out it's way scarier than I thought lol)
Tanya82
my list for tonight is:
*get through dinner without anyone choking on fish bones laughing2.gif
*clean up kitchen
*make Kayla's bed
*get Kayla off to bed
*do some sewing- currenty have a shirred dress for each of the girls waiting for the shirring
*do some of vest and or flirty skirty
*organise items to be posted
*make our bed

I am sure there is more, and I am sure it wont all get done tonight laughing2.gif
mamasue

My list:
* instruct DH to bring washing in
* instruct DH to feed animules
* instruct DH to put bins out
* instruct DH to forage for his own dinner
* sit on own butt and knit MK 'Volcano' shorties

laughing2.gif laughing2.gif laughing2.gif laughing2.gif

God, I kill myself sometimes
Fiesty
Hey Sue, you haven't said what MK colourways you've got yet - your volcano post is the first mention.
Dammit I'm witholding tiger cub pics until you say. lol (I haven't taken them yet, can you tell ph34r.gif )

lol @ instruct DH - I already instructed mine to throw on a load of washing while I went down and got dinner lol.

So glad I'm not the only one with this constant mental list happenning!

And Tanya - I am 100% sure I won't get all of my list done tonight either. What I don't get done will just wind up tacked onto tomorrows list lol.

I've decided to treat myself recently.

Ooohh lovely Sue, so where's the pics? glare.gif laughing2.gif

Well here she is, all finished and ready to be lanolised! I thought it would be huge on Abbey but it fits perfectly, could have been a little longer in the rise at the back but pretty darn good Tounge1.gif I didn't have enough wool left to crochet the legs though sad.gif

Fiesty
oooh, nice haul Sue. I personally am in love with the Merman, and also love the Mont Martre.

Given you shared I suppose I had better. lol Tounge1.gif

TigerCub soaker:

Front of what, for whatever reason, I am calling the 'John Butler Tree-o' shorties lol.

Back:

And my pinkypopple soaker - what do you think everyone, does it need embellishing? What do you suggest if it does?

Have gotten a few things from the list done, so that's a bonus!
mamasue
QUOTE

It doesn't matter - I loooooooooove the contrast coloured leg cuffs. Good job!

Boy, you've been busy Tara.
So will you be keeping the John Butler Tree-o now???? laughing2.gif
Yeah it does need embellishing I reckon.
Hmmmm - French Knot bunches of grapes in a dark poiple? Beaded flowers?? something in soft yellow? Fairies/elves?? Black spiders?? Celtic design??
The possibilities are endless really!
Fiesty
Sue - naw, not keeping them. They were originally for someone else anyways, that hasn't changed.

Getting cracking on DS's beanie for this evening, just finished watching californication. Will sit on the soaker for a bit. Well, not literally, but you know what I mean. Have a think about what I might want. It needs *something* I just don't know *what*.

Dana - I also think the contrast colour looks better than a matching colour would original.gif
*chan*
Wow, great work girls! Very clever, and inspiring biggrin.gif

I am going to spotlight tomorrow to get some microfleece to make into liners, and I'm going to buy some wool.

I have a few questions (sorry):

Where can I get a basic pattern?
Are shorties easier to make than a soaker?
What size wool do I need for some shorties? What ply? :S
How much do I need?
If I am going to dye the wool, do I just buy white? Or if I want them pink and purple, do I buy pink and just dye some of it purple?
How do I get it multicoloured (like Dana's)? Stupid question alert (aren't they all blush.gif ) : do I dye the one lot of wool all different colours, or do you use different bits of wool (is that even possible??)?
What needles should I get?

TIA grin.gif

natalya
mamasue
Where can I get a basic pattern? There are heaps of links to free and commercial patterns on the first page of this thread
Are shorties easier to make than a soaker? Not really all that much difference, depends on the pattern you decide to use; but shorties are basically a soaker with longer legs
What size wool do I need for some shorties? What ply? The amount of wool will depend on how big you need to make them. Usually 120 - 150grams for 9 to approx 15 months. Obviously more if your baby is older/bigger. Most people use 8-ply wool for day wear. 12-ply is good for night wear, but 8-ply is OK unless you have a heavy wetter. How much do I need?
If I am going to dye the wool, do I just buy white? Or if I want them pink and purple, do I buy pink and just dye some of it purple? You can buy white/cream wool and dye it any colour you want. If you are going to over dye you need to make sure the colour you dye with will cover the colour of the wool you dye. There are some really good dyeing links on the first page too.
How do I get it multicoloured (like Dana's)? Stupid question alert do I dye the one lot of wool all different colours, or do you use different bits of wool (is that even possible??)? Rainbow dyeing explanation on first page, but you get that effect by using different colours at the same time, being careful not to mix them. I think if you read through the dyeing links your q's will be answered. You can use different colours of wool, but you'd have a zillion ends to weave in .... not recommended for a beginning knitter.
What needles should I get? That will depend on the ply wool you get. General rule of thumb is 8-ply on 4.0; 12-ply wool on 5.0 ..... but it will depend on your tension. You need to knit a swatch first to work out your individual tension. Ask Dana about that one!!!!!!!!!!!

No such thing as a silly question .... only silly answers (with aplogies to those of you who have read that comment a million times!!!!! blush.gif )

That's what we're here for - to help - so ask away and feel safe to do so. We don't bite & we are all very helpful biggrin.gif

off to do some more work
Tanya82
well all I got to cross of my list last night was getting through dinner, getting Kayla off to bed, and a few rows on the vest laughing2.gif

DH made the beds, the kitchen was negleted, and flirty skirty hasn't seen the light of day for over 2 weeks now ph34r.gif

I just cleaned up last nights mess in the kitchen and took a leg of lamb off the bone. I ave it marinating in the fridge and will be cooking it on the BBQ tonight grin.gif

I am back into MK 'Volcano' .... knitting up real pretty ... will post a pic later.
*chan*
Wow, thanks a lot mamasue!!

I read through a few of the links, the videos were very helpful. There is so much to learn, but I think I'll learn it best by just getting in there grin.gif
-Screamapillar-
Busted ph34r.gif , I just like to lurk in here.

I've almost finished my first pair of picky-pants shorties, you girls have definitely given me a lot of inspiration.
Fiesty
Jax2boys - that's exactly it - only way to learn is to just get knee deep in it. I found that when I learned and I have also found that with patterns I initially thought were 'too hard'.. once I got right into em they weren't so hard and there was plenty of help available.

This is what I got done last night:
DH did dishes
I threw a couple of loads of washing on / through
Went down bought tea
Fed bathed, pyjamaed and got kids into bed.
Watched Californication
Replied to posts on facebook.
Started and finished a beanie for DS
Wound up in hospital at 3.30 am with suspected kidney infection
Came home took some antibiotics, went to bed woke up in agony.
I'm not a nice individual to be around today. cry1.gif
mamasue
No worries jax .... just please don't give up!
It will be verrrrrrry frustrating at times, but just come in here and we will help you through original.gif

Yeah, Kirsty - gotcha laughing2.gif laughing2.gif

Where are all the others??
Our group has become so small sad.gif

Hope you're feeling better by now Tara.
meik
Tara - oh no that sounds horrible! I hope the antibiotics have kicked in and you have some pain relief! Kidney infections are horrible!
eshee
sad.gif Tara you poor thing. I hope you are feeling better soon.

I only got a few rows done last night. I am trying to do some housework but my new little crawler keeps getting into mischief every time I turn my back laughing2.gif
~*Dana*~
Oh Tara how awful! bbighug.gif Did you know you had a UTI or did it just hit you as a full blown kidney infection? Keep the fluids up and rest hun original.gif

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should be starting as my next project. I have offered one of the MCN girls a soaker, I want to practice my dyeing so will do her a dye job and knit the rib soaker I just finished. I won't tackle the dye until Thurs though as I start n/shift tonight and don't have the energy! Then it's all systems go for Abbey's b'day weekend, I have my sister and niece and nephew staying over the weekend.

Took my camera into town today, the lens is buggered so have to buy a new one. Around $300 cry1.gif
mamasue
Elijah is crawling? wow ... let the games begin laughing2.gif
Tanya82
oh sh*t Tara sad.gif hope it clears up quickly
mamasue
Here's Volcano ladies.

8+ ply MK BBR ........ rather noice

Tanya82
very nice mamasue- i can picture dinosaurs on that tongue.gif
eshee
ooooo LOVE Volcano!!!!!

How many times does it take a baby to learn sticking fingers down throat = mess rolleyes.gif
Fiesty
Eshee - oh wow, he is crawling? It's ALL mess from there I reckon. DS for a while got really amused by his own burps, and would drink then try to burp. For about a month there every day would be an incident where he tried too hard and ended up vomiting lol. Thank god he's over it now.

Thanks for the well wishes - I am pretty trashed today and not moving far. Was a bit appalled last night at the hospital that people were sleeping in the waiting room with obvious ailments, but not a bed available in the whole hospital for them sad.gif. Wouldn't want to REALLY sick round here sometimes glare.gif It's ridiculous how much funding gets spent on frivolous things when health care is a real problem.

Dana - this is only the second time in my life I have even had a UTI. First one was about 3 years ago, and it went from first symptoms of a UTI to kidney infection, hooked up to a drip in emergency with doctors freaking out in a little over 6 hours. This time looked to be taking a similar path but luckily was clever enough to take myself off to hospital to get something to knock it on the head.

I feel like my kidneys are swollen to three times their size. Ick.

Love the volcano, very groovy!
Mulan
Hi all, I'm back, had a lovely few days away and caught up with friends and family. Time to read back and catch up on what I missed. It's been chatty in here again so Sue must be back. grin.gif

Great to see some new names in here too. Welcome waves.gif

I got a few little somethings done while I was away. A surprise for someone and this. I told you I wasn't going to let crochet get the better of me. Next stop will be a crochet soaker.

Eshee congrats on the crawling. Our chubba is well and truly crawling now too and decided to not stop at that and started pulling herself up now too. Sneaky little chicken that she is.

Joanne - Love the hat. It is very cute! What pattern did you use for that?

Well, my knitting/sewing/craft stuff is all organised so hopefully I can get Elsa into bed tonight and then knit some more of those Longies I started!
eshee
I am making some progress on the blu jeans but I think they are going to be huge. I am making them size 12-18mths so that they will fit for next winter. Oh well if they don't fit Elijah they might fit my big boy.....or me laughing2.gif laughing2.gif

The hat is gorgeous chubba!
Mulan
The blu jeans pattern needs a lot of tweaking to fit clothies too Esh

cry1.gif no Sue it will be dead in here again.

Meik the pattern is from a learn to crochet book. It's very basic too, nearly all half treble. As usual though I wasn't 100% happy with the end result so did some tweaking to the pattern to make the brim larger. I did a purplish variegated one first and undid it so need to start over on that one.
eshee
