Hello girls!

Thought I should do a bit of an intro post in here. As I have been lurking for a few weeks and thought it was about time!

I've decided to use cloth with bub number 2. DP is happy to use cloth, he even picked out a funky Lou Lou that he wanted for bubs at the stocking the other night! ohmy.gif happy.gif

I have done quite a bit of research and have decided to use prefolds with covers for the first few weeks/months. I have however brought some newborn and small sized fitteds from the TR to try out also. Have also made some coth wipes, which I'm pretty happy with. original.gif

What would you recommend for night time with a newborn? Not really sure about what to do. unsure.gif

Just thought I'd say hi! waves.gif and I'm sure you'll see me in here a lot more as bub's arrival get's closer.

newborns don't really need anything too special for nights cause you will still be changing them every few hours anyway.

You only need a dedicated night nappy once they start sleeping for long stretches of time.

Hi right back!

Didn't use cloth on a nb - used sposies for the first 8 weeks, but as pp said, unfortunately you are up so often during the night they won't need anything too absorbent.

Cheers,

I used cloth from day one for DD. I used some small and xs size fitteds and covers and an occasional AIO for out. For night times I just used some fitted ones that had a little more absorbency then others (so ones with hemp or bamboo) and used flanellette ones for day time. Like others have said though for the first few weeks you are changing them as often at night as during the day.

DD is 4mths and I use baby beehinds bamboo for night.

i used MCN on my bub from six days old, 100%, nights included.

my bub was awake every two hours to feed.
but other bubs i hear about, sleep ten hours etc.

if you have a long sleeper, i would recommend a malden mills fleece cover, and to put a baby beehinds bamboo foldup inside their fitted nappy, or their prefold, or whatever nappy system you use. bamboo foldups are so absorbent and trim (compared to other fabrics).

another excellent nb thing i had, that would have been perfect (if she slept that long!!!) was the Liam's bub malden mills pocket nappy, their sizes are quite small, so she was very quickly in their mediums (in smalls with all the other brands).

malden mills windpro is very waterproof.

you don't know until the baby arrives, what their wetting pattern will be like, what their sleeping pattern will be like, if they will have colic or not. so much you only discover when they arrive. (that's what i found out).

we had good success with prefolds + covers (PUL for days, MM fleece for cartrips and sleeps) and also nb and small fitted nappies with covers. The explosive runny poos i had been warned about, boy oh boy, did i find out about them!!!!

I had a complicated c-section, couldn't walk properly for a few months, but we still managed to do the MCN, it really helped to have a Little Squirt to rinse the nappies before putting them in the drypail; putting the front loader on a heavy bench so i didn't have to bend down; and having places online to ask my newbie with a newborn typed MCN questions.

are also great resources

i'm so tired i've forgotten your original question, but best of luck, enjoy the ride, it's a learning experience and so worth doing!

Thank you girls! original.gif You have all been very helpful biggrin.gif

Will look at everything all of you have suggested.

As others have mentioned it really depends on your bubs weeing patterns. My dd#2 wore tots bots soley from day dot, by day the trimmer fitting size ones, by night the bulkier size 2's which worked fine for us.

Ds now 6weeks is a bit hit and miss- he has stages where he pee's through near anything. For night I've been lately having success with a baby beehinds prefold snappied around his fat little tummy.

If I could start all over again with ds i would have only bought the beehinds prefolds and their bamboo fitteds as these have been my favourites for him thus far.
