Just wondering whether this works... The hemp/bamboo inserts are kinda expensive. I mean, I know still works out heaps cheaper than disposables, but still... I have a few, and will get a few more, but have been given heaps of terry squares already.

I would have thought the terry flats are too bulky. You can get smaller microfibre cloths - Kenco brand, 6 for $12 in Kmart, which I use to boost mandy macs.

you COULD use them, i used them to start with until i slowly got my stash up they are however very bulky as PP said

Do you mean use them in a pocket nappy? I think it would depend on the brand of nappy as to whether it would fit or not - but in any case, you can always cut them in half to fit (but lose absorbency).

Maybe half a terry and a microfibre cloth. You probably wouldn't want only microfibre as it is prone to compressing out everytime baby sits down - but it's fantastic when combined with another fibre.

I use a folded up flannie flat as an insert in one of my pockets - it's a bit trimmer than terry. The pocket in question is cotton PUL, but a gorgeous print, and I only have it on dd for 2 hours ish while she's awake. Works well, and haven't found it too bulky. I had thought if needed I'd add in a Greenkids hemp or bamboo booster - I think these are only $4 or so, and would add a lot of absorbency for little bulk. Have you thought of combining fabrics as pp suggested?
