Any hints for taking a 1 year old to the snow? I think I have everything except hard sole shoes, hopefully we can hire some when we are up there...

Also does the cold bother them? I was hoping to do a bit of cross country or snow shoeing, just easy stuff with bubs...dont want to fall over with her in the back pack..
Thanks

Hi,
We were in Sweden in their winter this your with an 11month old. DD handled it fine. The only time that beanie never left her head. A good quality beanie that also covers the ears is good. We had one that tied under the chin. In sweden we used an all in one overall suit that we borrowed with layers underneath. She quite enjoyed the snowed even when we took her hands out of her mittens so she could feel it until they got too cold of course. It was just another exciting adventure into the world for DD. The only thing she hated was getting dressed to go outside of course.

We did some cross country skiing as well but not with bubs but as long as they are rugged up they will be fine. Cross country skiing was fun once you worked out the movement and balance.

I'd probably ring one of the hire places at the area you are going and see what they have and maybe reserve what you need as they may only have a few things for the little ones.

cool thanks, great idea about phoning...my main concern was the shoes ( as she only wears those soft sole shoes)I know I cannot take her in the snow in those!!! we have a all in one snow suit for her..i have also got a polarfleece all in one suit with hood as she rips of beanies.. To put under the snow suit...I am hoping to get some skiing done when she naps

Hi Kusha

We're going skiing in a couple of weeks and taking our DD, who is nearly 16 months old.

A friend has lent us a one-piece snow suit, and I'm going to hire some proper snow boots (aka apres boots) for her. We will also buy some mittens and a good polarfleece hat (thought I had one, but it doesn't fit anymore!). Sharles' idea of the hat that ties underneath the chin is good, and with the mittens I'm going to tie them together with a very long shoelace and thread them through the sleeves of her suit IYKWIM.

DD is going to creche while we ski, but we want to take her to play in the snow too. I don't know where you're planning to go but if you want to put her in the creche I'd book now as they fill up fast. It's expensive though at $87 per day (Perisher) but that's skiing for you!

I also worry that with a backpack I'd fall over with her in it so I think we'll skip that. If you're planning on snowshoeing you could possibly try dragging your DD along in a toboggan or sled?

I can't wait, I am hanging out for some skiing... and this year I won't have to ski back to the creche to breastfeed her. Woohoo!

Have fun
