"Jimbo" - what sort of person do you associate with this name? Do you know a "Jimbo" & does it suit him?
It's been a topic of discussion in our house for the past few years & I'm just wondering if it's just us or not.
Cheers

Only Jimbo I know is from the Simpsons!

And he certainly isn't a role model!

My brother Jim grew up with the nickname of Jimbo. He only uses Jimbo within our family now, but the nickname still suits him well. He is a wonderful father, great husband, fabulous brother...funny, smart, well educated, self effacing, humble, honest, cool, cute & successful.
I'm sure there are some w@nker Jimbos out there, but my Jimbo cancels at least one of those out!

I have a good friend who goes by the name Jimbo (name is James). He's just a quiet but super friendly, genuine guy. Bit of a geek but so are a lot of my friends.
I cant bring myself to call him that though I feel so goofy saying it, I have another nickname for him that only I use lol.

Married one

Gorgeous man, wonderful father and husband. Suits him to a tee.
I could never call him it though, (like Amanda, I just felt goofy) and thankfully over the years more people drop the "bo", but it is still used by his workmates and sister mostly. Most people just call him Jim now (real name is James, again), his mum calls him Jamie, and I call him Jermie (his nan is scottish, so Jamie sounds like Jermie when she says it)
However, in general, when I hear the name Jimbo, by someone not talking about DH, I generally think lowlife, deadbeat etc etc... Have No idea why...

It's one of the nicknames my closest friends have given me, along with James. I'm neither a man or a yob...

Wow, some mixed responses. The Jimbo I know is BIL & it's what he calls himself when he rings up & leaves a message. He's nearly 50 & I just think it doesn't suit him & sounds a bit immature on a nearly 50 year old. Maybe it's also the fact that it's what he calls himself that makes it sound odd to me.
FTR he's not a bogan. Maybe a bit daggy, but def not a bogan.
Cheers

Me too. Jimbo, Jimbo, off to work we go.
I think it's a little odd for a 50 year old to refer to themself as Jimbo.

I find it odd that he refers to himself as 'Jimbo'.
Others calling him that - no probs.
But calling yourself a nickname like that is a bit naff IMO.
ETA - it also makes me think of Jimbo Jones from The Simpsons.
