Hey there,

My 8 week old is suffering with silent reflux and i was told to give her 2 mls of Gastrogel 10 minutes before each feed (bottle) this seems to be working quite well.

Just wanted to know if anyone else uses this product and if so for how long and is it at every feed? is the reflux likely to fix itself or is it just trial and error regarding how long I keep her on this for. Its a pain in the bum having to give her this stuff every feed aannoyed.gif i have noticed a lot of you are using either losec or Donnalix (spl?) how long have you been using these products for?? do your babies have trouble pooing on any of these cause Ruby seems to get a little constipated from the Gastrogel.

Thanks for reading.

had to remove post as I got gastrogel mixed up with donnagel (sorry)

Are you breast feeding?

Are you formula feeding? if so what formula? Somtimes it might be the formula thats causing the constipation.

My DD has silent reflux and has zantac

She is formula fed with NAN HA gold and has not had any constipation problems before we started using the gastrogel nno.gif

Whats the concept behind Zantac do you have to give it 10 minutes before a feed??? im looking for something a bit more practical to give when we are out and about and the gaviscon infant didnt work for us.

I think if the gastrogel is working I'd stick with it, losec and zantac are prescription durgs, more likely to have side effects

We were advised by the paed to use adult gaviscon, not infant. DS liked the aniseed flavour. Never had a problem with constipation with this either. Gastrogel is similar to mylanta and has aluminium in it and that is usually what causes constipation.

PS - we also used losec on prescription.

nan HA is good stuff!!! DS was on that biggrin.gif

DD on the other hand is on novalac AR (soon to switch to karicare de-lact when it arrives in the post, but this is because of tempoart lactose intollerence after gastro - but thats not important here...)

Zantac is said to be given 30mins before a feed. If it can't be well thats ok as it's fine to be given along side the feed. I use a tiny 1.5ml syrings (it's skinny) and slip it in with the bottle teat as she is feeding. She sucks away and is mostly none th ewiser. Sometimes she will stop and think ewwww!!! but then realise there's milk so sucks away again.

Zantac can be prescribed by your doctor and is fairly weight sensitive so dose will/may need adjusting every few weeks.

The zantac over the counter is the same strength, but more expensive. I'd consult with your doc and say that you want to try it... I doubt he'd say no.
