Hi everyone,

My m/c was found last thursday and I had d/c Friday. I've got my follow up appt with my Dr tomorrow and am wondering if you could please tell me what he might need to do.

I've noticed that some of you have had u/s to confirm all is OK. Does that still happen after d/c.

Will he need to test HCG, or should I ask for it to be tested?

I've still got quite a lot of bleeding and a bit of pain (been 6 days) that stopped after 3 then started again with gusto!! Should I quiz this?

Will he tell me if there was a reason for the m/c. If he doesn't, should I ask or would that make things harder for me??

If you know of anything else that's important, please let me know. I just like to be informed, and sometimes the Drs like to keep you in the dark.

Thanks heaps in advance,

Sarah,

Sarah,
My m/c was last sunday and had d&c monday night. My Ob has asked me to get hCG levels checked because there weren't any products of conception found in the histology samples, so just to make sure the preg wasn't ectopic. I've just gone and seen him today (unscheduled) because I started getting pain yesterday, 2 days after op, whereas I had absolutely no pain when I woke up from the op. It's gettting quite bad, esp when I'm not lieing down. (I actually logged on to see if I can find info on pain after D&C, so good to see your post).

As for the reason for m/c, sure, ask, but he might not know. According to mine, a lot of m/c is due to chromasomal abnormalities, which happens by chance. As it was my first m/c it doesn't mean i'll be likely to get another one. They can check for abnormalities if the embryo was sent to histology, but in my case, they didn't have it, so we will never know if it was a chromasomal defect.

My follow up appointment is in 6 weeks time! I was told bleeding can be upto 2 weeks and pain 5-7 days.

All the best.
Michelle

Sares - I am not speaking from experience here (as you know I was told to let mine go naturally... hopefully only another week and my hormones will be doen completely) but can at least pass on some info I picked up when I was expecting to have a D&C.

Basically it depends on each person and doctor as to what they do. Some will do an ultrasound to make sure all the POC was removed. In cases of prolonged pain and bleeding they check for infection or damage. Most info I came accross recommended just to keep an eye on your temperature and any signs that could indicate an infection. HCG levels should be expected to return to normal within a few days but that opinion does differ from person to person.

Probably does not really help much. Wish I could offer more.
