We have a new puppy, and whilst I love that puppy smell, after about a week he gets a bit smelly.
So, how often do you wash your dog?
tickle
About once every fortnight, but he's not a very smelly\hairy dog. If he was I'd do it more often.
shelly1
Once a month but they get brushed daily.

If my lovely boy dog decides to have a nice roll in (usually) something dead at the offleash area he finds himself having an extra one LOL. I also always bath them before I clip them (every 8 weeks)

We have hydro dog here once a month and we brush her weekly original.gif

Our dog has play dates with my parent's dog a couple of times a week (We have the dogs at work), and she gets pretty smelly from the play fighting and being covered in the other dog's saliva! If it's rained and she's been outside she gets that horrid wet dog smell too. She gets washed after both of these scenarios, so can be once a week up to multiple times a week. She's not great in the bath - she tries to jump out, so we put her in the shower with us. She's a small dog, and only 5 kilos, and she just lets us wash her. She doesn't like the word 'shower' though - She runs away if she hears it, but once she's in there she doesn't mind! It's really nice having a clean dog. I know some people whose dogs don't get washed until they go for grooming, which is usually not for a couple of months!

We try for once a week.

Our salon only does dog baths for a three hour period each day ( the rest of the day is dedicated to grooming etc ) so depending on my roster it sometimes drags out to once a fortnight.

We tried bathing her in the tub at home but she's too darn big.
bubbleb
Once a week.. by the time they are due again they are so smelly. Suprisingly the Pug smells alot worse then our fluffball.. must be doggie BO!
Shet
When I think she needs it.

My pup is now eight months old I think I have given her three proper baths (washed all over) since I have had her. So I guess that equals to one every couple of months.

She is regularly brushed though.
FreeRangeBabies
I'm going to go against the grain and say almost never!!!

Although... she goes for a swim daily in the river, and when its too cold for that she get a bath once a month.

She is amazingly NEVER smelly. The only way I know shes due for a bath is when my fingers go brown (from dirt) from giving her a good old scratch.
Nut
As needed and before each flea treatment.
Shet
It really depends on the breed of dog too.

I'd say if you have something like a Maltese they would need regular bathing.

I have a double coated breed so they need baths less often. Their outer coat repels dirt e.t.c.
SomeAussieChick
I get a mobile dog wash person to come every 2-3 weeks depending how smelly she is.
morgansacre
I had planned to wash my dog this weekend but as its raining and cold it will have to wait. I'd say when its needed or once a month which ever comes first original.gif

Ours goes into the shower with one of us once a week or so. He's an inside dog and has skin allergies so frequent washing with a treatment product not only keeps our house dog-BO free; it also stops him being so itchy.
laridae
Around every 6 months or as needed if they roll in something disgusting.
Dogs aren't supposed to be washed frequently - it makes them smell more and they get nasty skin conditions because their skin dries out from the dog shampoo. The natural oils that build up in a dogs coat help prevent smell.
(So if you're washing every week - your dog will probably smell worse original.gif)
Brushing regularly is necessary however.
crankybee
Every school holidays - just before she gets the home haircut!

Probably every six months or so. They are overdue. DH was 'going' to organise the mobile pooch bath, but hasn't. I guess I'll be doing that or washing them myself.

The Elkhound has a double coat, and its really hard to get dry, its also not good for the coat to strip the natural oils too often. However, she does definitely need one, so I guess I should put it on the list of things to do with my not-spare-time. wink.gif

Thanks for reminding me. wink.gif

My Bubbles is getting a bath every 3-4 days at the moment and is washed in Maleseb. She gets a good brush and flea picking as well!

She has FAD which has gotten really bad this year thanks to the excessive wet.
LunaBlue
usually once a fortnight in the shower with DH original.gif

We have hydro dog come here every 2 weeks. He is an outside dog, so I am happy to go that long, he gets a brush every now and again (short haired Kelpie).
*Spikey*
I might add that for some bizarre reason there are no fleas here. Not one. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

I haven't flea treated my dogs in over 7 years.

Although our pup is only 6 months old, we haven't ever found one flea on him either. I thought it was really strange being an outside dog. We had a maltese growing up - and inside one - and she was always covered in fleas. Must be that there isn't any fleas in our yard.

my dog (greyhound) has been bathed twice or possibly three times in the last two years. he self-cleans like a cat. (coughs up furballs too!)

I'm with those PPs who reckon dogs don't need to be washed regularly. Hosing them down is one thing, but to actually rub haircare products into their skin on a regular basis is asking for trouble. Actual skin conditions notwithstanding of course, although in some cases I wonder what got them going in the first place...

Anyway, ours are double-coated breeds too, so smell-wise washing is not necessary, and a good brushing is much more useful in getting rid of dirt. The samoyed is as pure white as ever, despite only getting washed at most once every 6 months. The dagging, though, is another matter entirely... That needs doing once a month or more! No one ever tells you these sort of things ahead of time when you research a breed...

Well, my dog is 9 months old, and has been washed maybe 4 times? So whats that, every 2 months roughly?
She doesn't smell at all, and has never had a flea, ever!

It depends on what has ben happening it can be anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks. If they have had a fresh clip it is a bit longer.

How is Bubbles going? I was thinking of her the other day (when I was cleaning my dogs ears) and hoped her ears and skin had settled down.

I try not to "overwash" my 2 but they love rough play, chasing the ball and get quite dirty plus they are inside dogs .They are also going through coat change and the had a bath and a haircut on Saturday and their coat is now beautiful (I think it needed the clip more than the wash) and they have had about 5 weeks worth of antibiotics as they had grass seeds in their ears that had got infected and I really think that affected the condition of their coat.

I dont have to worry about the cold - my 2 get blow dried LOL biggrin.gif

Bubbles is doing much better! She had a steriod shot and we did a course of antibiotics, and of course have been doing the melaseb washes. I felt awful at the vets, I so should have had taken her in sooner but silly me just thought it would go away once the weather improved but it got so bad so quickly!
And everytime I told her to sit she ignored me! I understood given the huge black dog that was sitting only meters away from her! - still I must have looked like a terrible dog-owner! Except when she was licking my face of course!

Her hair is growing back really well on her back as well as her ears. I have no problems washing her ears now - the vet said just to wash the ear by masaging the suds in on the outside and inside of the ear and some will work it's way into the ear canal. She still has black skin on her ears, back, and underbelly which I think is normal for her given she is 'middle aged' but otherwise she is so much healthier! She has started to play again which I thought had stopped due to age - but she is back to tearing around the house chasing the reflection of my watch! lol

Sigh, I still need to trim her nails though! I think I will have to pay someone to do it as I am petrified of hurting her! The vets here are awesome and have a grooming service with a day hotel for cats and dogs so they can have their vet appt and grooming done while you are at work!
dreamingofcats
Once a month when I do flea treatment application.

They do start to get a bit smelly near the end of the month but they also like to lie in dirt holes and swim at the river so if I wanted them non smelly Id almost have to wash them everyday laughing2.gif
