Essential Kids > General > What Do You Think?
3_for_me
This is the top layer of a two layer dress I'm making for DD(Feliz for anyone that knows it), the top layer is sort of apron style covering the front and sides with the back open where there will be a couple of lines of ruffles in the flower fabric in the picture.

WDYT should I make the underneath layer white or black? Or something else completely? (red, blue, green...)

MnM
Id use white, i think it will show up better than black. I don't think id add an extra colour in i think it wouldn't look right.
3_for_me
Oh yeah, and would you make the shoulders straps(which are fairly wide) white, black or same as body?
LisaMaree82
I would use black only because a white bum is just asking for trouble in this house.

ETA maybe you could do the straps and back piece in hot pink??

Lisa
MnM
Either black or same as the body.
Amanda_R
Pink or a lighter blue colour, or a nice duck egg blue. If you're using colour to offset it, then I'd possibly do the straps in the same colour.

Sort of like how this one works:

toosenuf
Dusty pink? but i suppose it depends on your DD's colouring.
LittleWhiteDove
I'd go either white for both the back and the straps, or a colour that would work with your daughters colouring - I love the hot pink suggestion, or the dusty pink, or the duck egg blue.
!!!
I think blue like in the pic Amanda posted would look good or perhaps a light grey.
3_for_me
thanks guys, I had also had the thought about white maybe being a bad choice like Lisa Maree said so I'm not so keen on white(even though it would look nice for the first five minutes Tounge1.gif )

These are the colours I have that may suit, I've resolved to not buy any other fabric if I can get away with it, the first one is a very light pink incase it looks white in the photo wink.gif

I was thinking either the red, the cornflower blue or the dark dusty pink might be nice but I'm rather torn. As far as what colours suit her she's got one of those wonderful complexions that looks good in almost everything.
Amanda_R
I like both the blue and the pink on the far right. I think they'll make it outfit pop a bit more. Or maybe the middle pink colour. The other blue is a bit drab and the red is a bit too dark, and the pale pink just a bit too pale. Red could look good it would just depend on what colours you really like on the wearer.

OK, I think I've decided on the darkest pink in that picture original.gif Thanks guys for all your thoughts tthumbs.gif

I'll post a pic when it's finished

perhaps a light grey

That would look gorgeous!

From the fabrics you've shown, I like either the pink on the far right or the middle blue.
Bel Rowley
I'd go with either the top middle or the top right, love the pink!

Dusky pink, dusky blue or a red would look great.

Please do, with that pink it'll look great.
LisaMaree82
Oooh yay don't tell me I actually picked something right lol.

Go the hot pink for sure, it will look perfect original.gif Can't wait to see a pic when you are finished.

Well after dealing with sick kids all night I'm >< that far away from having it finished but I won't get a chance now until the weekend so here it is, mostly done except for a tidy up of loose threads, etc and hemming the very bottom layer. Doesn't quite sit right without a body inside, coathangers kinda funny shape, so the photo ain't great but it's the best you're getting right now Tounge1.gif

So the question now is do I just hem the pink layer or do I edge it with some of the same black velvet ribbon that is the sash?
RedHibiscus
I would probably pin some of the velvet to the hem to see if I like it, then make the decision. original.gif

Well done on the dress, my copy of Sewing Clothes Kids Love arrived late yesterday afternoon and I already have the fabric for the dress so I think all my other projects will (unfortunately) be pushed aside lol!
3_for_me
Oh and I also thought I might make a flower out of the velvet ribbon for at the base of one of the straps at the front, seems like it needs something to break up that join a bit shrug.gif

Looks beautiful. Great work.
