I need a new one and over doing a lucky dip each time. Can someone recommend a good one that will even out my skin tone without looking like it was applied with a trowel? I have a Maybelline powder thingy now but that kind of just looks like powder huh.gif
littlemissmessy
I just love the Max Factor panstick makeup. It works as a foundation and concealer in one, but it does give heavier coverage. Avon has some really well-priced foundations, but it is kind of a lucky dip getting the right shade unless the rep has samples. By the way, I know some pharmacies (priceline) will give you a sample of foundation so you can test it outside in the sunlight.

Don't wear it often but when i do, i like the mineral powders - the Inika brand is good. No nasties and a really natural look - your skin only airbrushed!
sarah_jane
Haha, I just bought one of the panstick foundations for my handbag- and I love it so much I'm getting another one to use all the time! I only wanted it as a spare LOL.

I used to really like everyday minerals powder, I got it online. Too lazy now laughing2.gif
SlinkyMalinki
I use 'I Love Minerals' as an everyday foundation - recently found it at a market, and love it!

For special occasions I use MAC.

My favourite foundation is Mirenesse Liquid Silk, but any of the foundations by Mirenesse are good. They have great coverage and last all day without looking caked on.

I also recently used a trial sachet of Maybelline's Superstay Makeup and Estee Lauder's Double Wear and they were also very good.
vonnegutesque
Cool, sounds like the panstick is the most realistic option, as it's more likely this hick town will stock it Tounge1.gif

Where is the Inika mineral powder from pp? I love the idea of mineral powder but in reality it hasn't worked out for me yet laugh.gif

eta Vanessa we must've been posting at the same time. I saw the Maybelline one but I wasn't sure about it as the mineral powder wasn't great. I've got a Maybelline highlighting stick I like though.
Glr-r
I use the bodyshop liquid one for everyday use as it's really light and foolproof to apply. For nights out I use napoleon China doll.
niggles
Panstick provides a great coverage and is really easy to apply. I'd use it primarily BUT it's not oil free and it makes me break out. I'd avoid it if you have sensitive skin.
CleverChook
I'm using Maybelline Super Stay at the moment, and I''m finding it great. I prefer a liquid foundation in winter, and this is just as good as the Revlon ColrStay I was using. don't know if I'd call it 'the best', but it's great value for money! It feels nice on my skin, and looks natural and gives good coverage.

I still like the Revlon, but I'll admit that the reason I switched was because I'm a lazy sod and like the idea of being able to buy my foundation at the supermarket!
TazzieD
Something I think is worth spending money on is a good foundation! A bad foundation looks terrible. Even worse if there is bad application!
I use Estee Lauder Double Wear. I buy it off ebay. It is good on sensitive skin and has SPF 10 so a good basic every day foundation. I use mineral powder over the top.

sikchic
I really like Revoln Photo Ready foundation, it gives you a really good finish, its smooth and non greasy
and really does give me a photo finish, i wore it to a recent wedding and the photos of me looked really good
never seen that before so will be sticking to this foundation
its reasonably priced too
MadamFrou-Frou
I am using Maybelline Mineral Power Natural perfecting foundation and it's the best I've used in a while. Light even coverage that doesn't block my pores or feel yucky.
=R2=
I love my Bobbi Brown Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF 15. Very natural looking and easy to apply and blend. I don't need to set it with loose powder either. It's $75 per 30mL but a little goes a very long way.
vonnegutesque
MFF that's the one I have been using and I love the way it feels, but it's a bit light for my skin tone (I think I'm getting old, my skin is getting patchy laugh.gif ) so it wasn't quite enough.

I just went and bought a Panstick and I really like it so far!
MadamFrou-Frou
This is the liquid not the powder, I have always found mineral powders too light.
RatbagBob
I use the lightest Clinique one (can't remember what it's called) and I love it.
laladidah
I use Clinique superbalance foundation, its $48, but I find I don't need to use very much each time, so a little bottle can last me 5 months, even though I wear foundation most days.

IMO it blends really well and looks really natural, and I like the fact that its one of Cliniques "regular" lines, so they arent going to discontinue it and make me find something new. ( I used to get so mad when that happened with previous foundations I had used!)

Oh right, I didn't know it came in liquid form.

OP, i got the Inika mineral powder from a healthfood shop but i'm sure you'd be able to buy it online. I had another mineral powder before that one which i didn't like as it made my skin look dry. The thing with mineral powders is not to put them on too thick and they will tend to look much better an hour after you've put them on - after they've blended better with your natural oils. I don't like to look like i've got anything on - just a little more even skin tone and a nice glow.
yoshimoto83
I am loyal to Paula's Choice Barely There sheer matte tint (I buy it online -- you can buy samples to check the colour you need). It's nice and light, more like a tinted moisturiser than a heavy foundation. Creamy consistency.
Blish
OP - thanks for asking this question.

I use a Maybelline foundation (can't recall what one) - I like the way it goes on and the colour but in all my photos my face is extra shiny and I hate that.

I am assuming this foundation wouldn't shine in photos? Can the person who posted this comment answer this query? Thanks!

I have been using Napoleon camera finish for the last year and I love it, it gives the best results and at the moment if you send $69 on products you get lots of freebies lol
~Rebekah~
I've used lots of different foundations over the years because I find my skin changes so much and I also have a lot of trouble getting a good colour match. Shisiedo used to do the nicest compact foundation which was just perfect for my skin but they discontinued it.

I now use Nude by Nature minerals for every day use http://www.nudebynature.com.au/ and it's great for my skin because i'm still prone to breakouts every month and I don't get them when I use this. I just threw out a bottle of Estee Lauder Double Wear because it made me break out something horrible.

If i'm going out or want something with a better coverage I use either the Chanel Matt Lumiere Luminous which I get from here - http://au.strawberrynet.com/makeup/chanel/#3327 much cheaper than in DJ's or Myer and i've also recently discovered Nars Sheer Glow Foundation which I get from the US at 1/2 the price than what you pay in Mecca from here - http://www.kissandmakeupny.com/naglfo.html

I actually get comments on how great my skin looks when I wear the Chanel Lumiere, it's amazing stuff.

I was wondering that too; I totally hate it when photos all come back looking like the photos were taken in 90% humidity!

I wouldn't recommend Avon if you have oily or combination skin! I bought some recently and even after using the powder for finish, I have an oily shine within an hour. It was gross.

I just bought Revlon Colourstay foundation and Mineral powder for oily/combination skin. I can vouch it stays on and keeps the shine at bay for hours!! They gave me a small tube of the photo finish foundation too...but I haven't actually tried it...

I have a couple of Avon foundations and while I wouldn't use them if I was going out, I think they are fine, especially if you use a primer. All foundations are better if you use a good primer.

FWIW, I have also used a sample of Revlon's Photo Ready, which I also thought was very good, I didn't have my photo taken while wearing it though.

I am intrigued! What do you mean by primer? It isn't possible that I have never heard of the priming step is it? Where have I been!

Please explain?

In Avon terms it is their product called 'Magix Face Perfector'.

I use a couple of primers by Mirenesse, they make your foundation last longer and they help with shine. I used to think they were just another product that I didn't need, until I started using them.
mummabear
Thanks Vanessa, I will check out if Revlon has one to match what I already have!

I agree. I used to think primers were just another way to get money out of us at the counter. That was until I started using one. I've only ever tried the Shiseido one and also the Napoleon one. I thought the Napoleon one was a lot better.

Vanessa - I've never tried Mirenesse's foundations because i've never actually seen them around in the shops but I was given their mascara which I adore. Where do you buy the products from, online ?

=R2=
Re: makeup primers

I found Natio Illuminating Primer to be fantastic (only around $14). Not as expensive as others and is non silicone-based. The ones heavy with silicone break my skin out. Primers are great because they make your makeup application smoother and easier plus they make it last longer.

My sister was the one that put me on to Mirenesse (she's a beauty therapist/make up artist) about 18 months ago. She had some foundation samples that I was able to try and I couldn't believe how good it was, having been buying ever since, they have the best mascara too.

Like just about everything else I buy, I get it online. http://www.mirenesse.com/

I use Napolean and Clinque. Both really good brands IMO but if I had to choose one, I would pick Napolean.
ironbutterfly
I love Napolean, Auto pilot!!
I'm used to using theatre makeups that a VERY heavy and VERY thick.
I am NOT an everyday makeup person but I found them absolutely fool-proof.

PS Primers are a way to go, much easier to remove makeup, looks after your skin better. I use them for facepainting too.
**Xena**
I have just started buying Maybelline Liquid Mousse.
It looks awesome on and feels so light and silky.

I just found this out!

I have *cough* "mature" skin and was using Nude By Nature and like it better than anything I've tried over the years for the coverage, but found it could settle into the, ummm, "maturity" lines on my skin. I bought the Nude By Nature primer the other day and it's made a huge difference. Fresh and dewy as a daisy, I look. Sort of. A daisy picked a few years ago, anyway laughing2.gif.
Crazy.Whimsy
I love mineral make-ups as well. I have used the Nude by Nature but changed to Sheer Cover (yes I know its on tv lol). Sheer cover seems to blend better with my skin tone.
I'm really happy with it.
damita
I love MAC foundations, they're fantastic.

Alternatively, the Face of Australia Stick Foundation is great, too.
wallah
I use MAC. Perfect match for my weird skin tone, and blends really well with moisturiser to make a light-weight foundation. For nights out or when I want it caked on a bit more, I apply it directly on the skin.
