hi everyone.... just needed to get it all out sad.gif
quick review; been unwell for a number of years, first diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, then about a year ago they are thinking some kind of food intolerance????
had Fruc mal test and lactose test and it was not a clear positive, so they put me on diet to see how l went, long story short, felt soooo much better but still the occassional sickness, sent to dietition who was astounded that l have never been tested for coeliac ohmy.gif
havent eaten gluten for 12 months, until yesterday, as l have to do the 6 week thing and eat gluten, so l thought to myself, l really need to know ....
my dietition says it would be easier to work out what the problem is if we can rule out coeliac
l get really annoyed that l was never tested
cos now l have to feel like this, lm not sure if its gluten or some other type of intolerance????
it was so hard to eat gluten again, it was like putting cyanide in my mouth!
lm not sure if lm doing the right thing, my gastro said he didnt want me living as a coeliac if l didnt need to be, l know other things make me ill as well so lm confused...
what l do know is that l felt ok yesterday, 1st day of eating gluten, but today l feel really nauseous...yuk...
l dont know if l can do this????
l could be doing all this for nothing???
l get really depressed when l get ill and struggle not knowing what it is thats making me sick,
any ideas for me l would be very grateful...... lm so over being sick but think l have to keep going...BUT HOW
sorry its long and sorry if its confusing...lm confused too

Is it possible to hold off until after Christmas? It would be awful to be sick at this time of year! My DS is low gluten, after Christmas I am going to fill him up on heaps of gluten - - I didn't want him to continue to be sick for Kinder and creche, and I plan to hang around home if he does get quick sick over the holidays. We haven't cut the gluten out completely as I am aware of how much more sensitive you can become once it's reintroduced.

Do you work? I couldn't imagine working if I needed to introduce gluten back into the diet and have it make me sick. sad.gif

I did read something recently that you can feel quite sick initially, then things settle down when you reintroduce the gluten.

Unfortunately my DD3 is extremely sensitive to gluten - she will vomit from the smallest amount. She's missed so much school this year, due to other people's mistakes. sad.gif I couldn't imagine putting her back on gluten for 6 weeks!

Another thing to consider - is how long until your biopsy? Will you get it after 6 weeks, or will you need to wait a few months until a spot is available? Six weeks is the required time to cause damage - but it doesn't mean you can go gf again then, so you could be in for a LONG wait.

You can also have the gene test done - this should show if you are at risk of developing Coeliac. (Only 1 in 30 with the gene(s) go on to develop Coeliac at some point in their life). Some people who are unable to re-introduce gluten have this test - if you don't have the gene, then you are unlikely to have Coeliac (it's not 100%, but very close)

thanks for your reply Zombiemum original.gif
had the gene test and l do carry the gene....
the hospital where lm going to have the biopsy asked me if l could go on a 24 hr notice to have the scope and l said l couldnt that l needed 6 weeks notice, so lm thinking l wouldnt need to wait long after that, well hoping l guess.
And yes l work, only two nights a week but have two small children to look after, l do agree that maybe l should of waited till after christmas, l just thought l wanted to get it over and done with, l dont even know if l will make it as l was awake most of the night feeling sick, wouldnt it be great if there was another way!!!!!
l have also heard that after a few weeks after eating gluten it settles down a little, l guess thats what l was thinking about christmas
thank you again for your reply, l really appreciate it happy.gif
Second Edition
Good luck Oliversmum. I found that nausea was a big symptom for me, it would last a few days at a time, and I had trouble sleeping with it too. Felt like if I vomited it would be better, but was never able to vomit. I would then feel ok for a while, just have other symptoms, but the nausea was one of the worst. I feel for you sad.gif .

oh thank you second edition,
yeah thats like me! l feel like if l could be sick l would feel better, but cant do it!!!
l also cant sleep when l feel yuk...
thank you happy.gif

oliversmum, I hope you can be seen quickly after 6 weeks, and I do hope the nausea settles down.

Oh, just thought of something.

You could try using Sea Bands for the nausea - it won't make it disappear, but it might take some of the edge off?

I used them for my morning sickness and they are great for travel sickness.

I paid about $20 for my first set from a pharmacy.

I picked up a few sets last year at The Reject Shop for $3 each and have used those for my kids to prevent travel sickness. I have also seen them cheap at Chicken Feed, but that was a couple of years ago.
The Chemist Warehouse has them too.
