Hi my little fella awakes all night and recently has mastered escaping his door and child gate and wanders destroying whatever he can.Pulling everything from cupboards,filling the toilet etc
Its driving me insane and I cant think for the life of me what to do.He sleeps in a single bed as was on a toddler bed and moved it round the room at night tipping it and banging against the wall.He pretty much ate through his wooden cot and banged his head constantly.He is 4 and has Down Syndrome.
I hope someone has a solution..I have thought of putting him back in a cot (most likely metal) but he very strong and prob would shake and break it quickly.
Im so tired I could cry..he goes all night and all day.Right now hes still awake in his room prowling and growling...hes tired but wont sleep

I know someone who had issues with this with their SN child... they spent ages jumping hoops, but in the end, because he was considered a danger to himself with his night time wandering, they got funding to have a special bed built for him... like a cot but the same size as a single bed.

She could get in and out of bed with him as she needed if he was sick or unsettled, but he couldn't get out or do damage or harm.

My friend had issues with her child with autism. They ended up taking the knob off the inside of the door. They decided this after their child had let himself out the front door.

thanks so much for all your advice..will be taking to a few people and I think we will def have to get a cot style bed made..his body is growing but he's still mentally just over one and so has no idea of safety...he was up at 4am today

I second this. We had a safety gate but my DS managed to get out of it. He is almost 3. 8 weeks ago i was at my wits end. So we went and got a screen door measured up for his doorway in his room. Put it on and he can't get out. His room is safe, so i know if he wakes he can't get out. I have found him asleep on the floor a few times.

My other 2 use to be like this, not as bad. We now give them melatonin to send them off to sleep. It gives me a couple hours reprieve.

I feel you. Lack of sleep is the pits
