Hi have a new iPad.

Yesterday morning was the first time I have synced it to the computer / itunes.

Last night I downloaded a movie from itunes and was loading it onto the ipad. It was nearly finished when a message came up that it was unable to complete the request (something along those lines)

Now, when I plug the ipad in to sync is won't do anything and says it is recovery mode. ohmy.gif To fix this I need to hit restore. The problem being that I have about 200 photos from our recent holiday on this ipad and if i restore they will all be lost won't they ?

I don't even know how to check if they were backed up when I did the inital sync in the morning.

Have tried the Apple hotline but as expected they are not there being a public holiday.

I am just so worried about the photo's. Nearly our whole 3 weeks holidays worth might be gone cry1.gif

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

From my nerd DH...

Do you have a Mac?

If so your photos should be in Iphoto...

will await your response

If you can't find them and you want to keep them...make a genius appt at the Apple store.
TinMan
Also DH says...maybe go to a specific forum like Whirlpool...very helpful people on here may have some ideas

hmmm try bluetooth or install dropbox on ipad and pc, or email them to yourself or dh....

Thanks for the reply.

No I don't have a Mac sad.gif

Edited to add that I can't even turn the iPad on as it is in recovery mode.

When it synced yesterday would that have caused the photos to be saved anywhere ?
misschris
Your photos should be stored/backed up on your computer somewhere, yes? Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to sync them to your iPad in the first place.

As the PP said, if you have an iMac your photos should be stored in iPhoto, and it's very easy to just re-sync them after you have restored.

ETA - Oops, just saw your reply.

How did you sync your photos the first time? Are they stored on your computer in a folder somewhere?
LouiseA1
The photos were downloaded from our cameras direct to the iPad whilst we were travelling.
misschris
Are they still on your camera or the memory card? Could you just do the same thing again after you have restored?

Or, could you download the photos to your computer so you at least have a backup?

If none of those suggestions are helpful, try somewhere like the Whirlpool forum. original.gif
TinMan
From that we assume they are no longer on the camera?

Your ipad is likely doing what it's doing because it's having a software meltdown.

Can you look on your PC for an itunes folder and see what's in there? The Nerd says he's now just guessing.

Dh suggests putting this into google "where does itunes store my photos on my PC"
LouiseA1
We downloaded the photos onto the iPad to create room on the memory cards in the camera's. I still have photos from the end of the trip but not the begining. Long story but I didn't have time to clear the memory cards before we left home. I wasn't worried as I had researched and knew that when I bought the iPad I would be able to offload some photos then.

Great idea ! This must be the only thing I haven't googled in relation to this. Off to try now, thanks.
