This season of Masterchef is by far the worst!
A pasta and sauce celebrity challenge?
Are you kidding?
My DP loves my pasta recipes more than anything he's bought at a restaurant....they are not that hard.
The producers of this years show seem to want the young and pretty to win and are dumbing it up so they win.
I truly think the show should be for person 25 and older who want to be able to change their life.
Ellie is only 21....she's so young, more than young enough to pull her finger out and go get a chefs apprenticeship.
I want Kate to win....she's consistent, she's a great cook and she hasn't slipped under the radar.

So I ended up watching it.
What a ridiculous challenge. Pasta and Sauce? A celebrity chef that seemed more intent on making sure Ellie did it perfectly rather than concentrating on his own?
Rigged and far too simple for this part of the competition.
This should not be called Masterchef anymore. It should be called The Ellie and Dani show. They get the most screen time, they get the most help and out of who is left they, along with Sun, are the worst cooks.

I agree with others that the celebrity chef threw the challenge. As if he could not cook a perfect pasta with his eyes closed.
I think he just thought there was more benifit in being sweet and charming.
I thought it was funny that Gary felt he had to explain to to Ellie that when the chef said "come back to my place and I will show you some things" that he was just asking her to his restaurant to show her how to cook - not out on a date. hahahaha
That episode was just maddness. pasta and sauce for immunity? Ellie winning? the challenger chef getting drunk? it was too silly for me to be annoyed about it.

I would have been very peeved if I were one of the competitors. I think Dani was happy as Ellie is one of the weakest challengers so that means someone stronger will go when Ellie uses her pin.

13/07/2011, 10:41 AM
LOL what a crock!!! How easy was that dish, I could make it with my eyes closed......could've whipped that up in 20 minutes and she still struggled with making the pasta and was asking him for advice. Plus he gave her all the meats she needed to use!!! He definitely wanted her to win.........she should consider herself lucky!!!
I'm hoping Sun goes this week. I was rapt when she lost the first challenge and had to go into lockdown!!! Time for her to go!!!
Tis funny when Ellie said how she couldnt believe that she won bla bla.
DH comment was, "I can't believe either since you are not a very good cook!"

I was also really peeved with the result. Since she had all that experience cooking italian they should've stopped the chef assisting so that she showcased her own talent rather than having so much help.

I agree that Ellie was given a lot of help. However, she had absolutely no advantage going into the challenge. In the past, those trying for immunity either had a head start or the celebrity chef was cooking something they were unfamiliar with.
How could an amateur cook be expected to even have a chance at beating a professional, at his own dish, with exactly the same time to cook it? I personally think it was fair that she had a little assistance.
Good on her, she has been cooking well recently and deserved to win last night.

Totally agree that it was a farce. The dish was not a challenge at all. The masterchef judges really need to tell the celebrities not to throw the challenges.
The inconsistency with this year's immunity challenges is laughable.
Let's hope she gets put into the elimination and has to use the pin. The fact that Ellie and Dani have been "given" pins without earning them makes a mockery of those who have genuinely won a pin in this season and last.

You know, I'm not a fan of Ellie but, bless her, she was just so happy last night. in spite of myself I was actually quite pleased for her. A least it mixes things up a bit.
I agree the chef tried to lose but maybe he thought giving a young chef some confidence was more important? He clearly doesn't have an ego that needs any adulation from some random Australian tv show lol.
I liked him. He was mad as a brush! If he offered Ellie work experience in his kitchen after MC she should bite his hand off.
I thought Kate made a very passive aggressive comment afterwards and the only one who looked genuinely pleased was wooden Hayden.
That column on the smh website is hilarious - the stuff the other day about Michael being secretly in love with Hayden had me laughing out loud. Brilliant.

When it comes down to an immunity pin that can affect other competitors on the outcome of the whole competition, then I don't see how 'giving someone a confidence boost by letting them win' is very fair! This is not kindergarten 'give everyone a chance for a win' this is a competition where others have left their families & upheaved their lives for 6 months or more, only to come so close to the end, and potentially lose their place in the comp all in the name of another one's confidence boost?!

Agreed.
I'd be spewing if I were the other contestants.
Getting immunity should not be this easy at this stage of the competition. If it was one of the guys competing, I don't think the chef would be as helpful.

I still enjoy this show and take it for what it is - enjoyable fluff. Good luck to anyone who gets on when the have to deal withthe level of virtriol directed at them - but hey, that's, reality tv.
One thing I've decided is that the producers actually take on board the criticism from the public and make changes each season.
eg.1 in Season 1 there was a lot of flack about the contestants voting each other off in the early stages and the perceived creation of cliques. That has been dropped.
eg. 2 in Season 2 there was a lot of flack about the crying and carrying on about how much it all means blah blah blah. Although some of that has been retained around elimination time it really has been drastically reduced. They have also cut out a lot of the editing that seemed designed to make people (ie Chris in season 1 and Jono in season 2) unpopular.
They have also, maybe, made the immunity challenges more realistic - last years were really really hard.
Now everyone complains that its too easy and bland!
For what its worth I was thrilled for Ellie last night. I think some of you are being a bit unfair.
It is easy to make pasta with sauce but not always easy to make a dish, utterly from scratch (other than curing the meat of course) that you have never made before after one tasting. Good luck to all of you who can do that with your eyes shut! .

But if you made it to top 8 on masterchef I would expect you to be able to make pasta & sauce from scratch with your eyes shut! I personally feel there was a lot more talent on jnr masterchef. The kid drying hand made pasta on his arm whilst stirring/cooking his food reinforces this for me.. It was even too easy a challenge for the juniors!

OMG, this was such an irritating episode to watch. Alana annoyed me, Ellie annoyed me, Dani annoyed me and Michael and Kate's glass-is-half-empty outlook on their almost perfect dish p*ssed me off.
And the repetitiveness of it all! OMG, the repetitiveness of it all. Did I mention how repetitive it was? Did you know Alana and Ellie had to cook dessert? They had to cook dessert! And it was from some dude at some restaurant (hmmm, despite the repetitiveness of it all, I can't seem to remember the exact details, lol!). It was a dessert from [the dude's restaurant], and they had to cook it! Which they both told us, at least twice, and then Gary and George let us know, too! And we heard about the entree and main dishes at least the same amount of times. Gaaaagh!
I think the show definitely needs new writers for the to-camera-diary moments. The lame commentary that spills from the contestants mouths is starting to drive me up the wall.
And yet, I will keep watching
I'm confident that Hayden will cook well enough to get through elimination and I'm confident enough that Dani will miraculously get through too.
I'm not too fussed whether it's Sun or Billy who go, but I'd prefer if it was either Sun or Dani in the bottom 2.

I like Micahels reactions when he wins something. He always steps aside and grabs his head.

If looks could kill, Hayden would be dead. Dani was So angry at him! Dani got lots of compliments for her doughnut thing and it was Haydens crumbly trout that made them loose. I can't believe Dani went around to other contestants and gloated that she had nothing to do. She could have helped Hayden stir, he had been stirring non-stop for half an hour.
Alana and Ellie's dish looked really good. I think they deserved to win. I was 'salivating' just watching it.
You could turn this show into a drinking game-
1 drink for every time they say 'elements/Alements'
1 drink for every time they say 'elimination'
1 drink for whenever someone says 'salivating'
5 drinks for when they describe food as sexy.
The elimination challenge looks good tonight. Should be interesting

She was clearly unimpressed and to be honest this made me dislike her even more. There have been plenty of times when she has let down a team challenge and they have been up for elimination because of her. Last night was her turn to take it graciously and she didn't.
I also think she could have been a sport and helped out. The main was much more complex than the entree. Considering the help she got in her immunity challenge she could have extended a hand and helped wash the carrots or something instead of gloating she had nothing to do.
To be honest, Ellie and Dani should count their lucky stars they had the partners they did. It would have been interesting to see Ellie and Dani paired up

Ellie and Dani did really well though to get that dessert up in the time they had.
Looking forward to tonight's elmination.

Haha...so true. Not that she can really talk, I mean she is generally the poorer cook of the two anyway. I'm glad she's in the elimination. I hope either Sun or Dani go. I wouldnt care either way.

I really think Dani has cooked terribly all week, and despite doing well last night I do think she deserves to go in to the elimination over-all. I think Hayden and Billy will be safe and Dani or Sun will go home (hopefully Sun).

What is it with the repetitiveness?
This show is starting to give me the irrits.
I think the chase bit was badly executed. I am guessing the idea was to show some of NY but instead it was mostly them sitting in taxis complaining how bad the traffic is.
If it was scripted they should have been saying things like, "The taxi drivers are so wonderful, they just know where everything is (unlike Sydney taxi drivers)", "It's so easy to get around and the people are so friendly" etc etc. So clearly it isn't scripted as all we had was whinging.
For once I actually agree with the winners and losers however. The dessert was completed in the least amount of time and the main course was ridiculously complicated so they needed to be cut some slack.

What a great episode last night! I am really impressed with the challenges that they have devised for this NY week.
I soooooo hope Dani or Sun go tonight. Preferably both!
Dani seems to be a nasty piece of work. Gloating, throwing evil looks, thinking she is better than everyone else, certainly not a team player. Hope she has a shocker tonight.
Agree that Kate and Michael's pessimistic attitude was a tad annoying but I think they were genuinely shocked that they had done enough to get through.
And Alana and Ellie - even though I don't think Ellie is a very good cook, those two really did well under pressure. Good on them.

She has a short memory that's for sure.
Watching the preview for the elimination it seems that Sun might go. But hey, that might just be the MC ham fisted, build up some tension for a fake 'shock' ending, editing that we seem to get a lot of.
I would like Hayden, Kate and Billy for the final three with Hayden winning (although is it just me or is he increasingly looking like a thunderbird in his bits to camera with those choppy hands?)

Dani is such a pain. I can't believe she stood around gloating that she had nothing to do while everyone else was frantic! Alana did not seem impressed and threw her the biggest dirty! She should have been helping Hayden and taking initiative, not asking what she can't do *forehead slap*.
She is a nasty piece of work and it was obvious she was disappointed in Hayden & made sure everyone knew it. She just gves off the vibe of being an incredibly spoilt single child that has had everything handed to her on a plate.
I am also coming to dislike Michael, he speaks to the women very rudely and makes comments like "just get it done" or similar but then takes massive short cuts on his own elements (like peeling the carrots). I think he tries to play the nice young guy but in moments of frustration he shows who he really is.
