I got such good ideas for my 12mth old that I thought I'd ask this question here too, in the hope I can get some suggestions as to what to get DD for christmas.

So, what are you getting your 5-nearly 6 year olds for chrissy?
caesie'n'linc
DD has just turned 6. So far she is getting a hula hoop and a set of beads to make jewelery from.
I need more ideas though, I might hang around here for some inspiration if that ok original.gif
barrington
She has asked for a leappad, so she is getting that.

She is also getting a barbie camper, hula hoop and a couple of leappad games.

She got a lot of craft things for her birthday (art set etc) so I'm staying away from that for Christmas. Her favourite birthday present was a game of Charades.

~Supernova~

My DD 5 nearly 6 has said she wants all sorts of seeds for Christmas - so we're thinking we'll get her a little garden bed/ some digging tools and various seeds. Might also get her and her siblings tickets to see a show- Annie's coming out early next year, or a circus or similar. She'll probably get a few books too... My oldest 2 are harder to buy for- any ideas for a 12 and 9 y/o girl?
mypigeonpair01
So far I have for DD (who is 6 on 22/12/11): a digi-piggy digital piggy bank, some clothes, books, going to get her some wii games (maybe 2) and a DS game. Still need to get b'day present which is difficult so close to Xmas! She has asked for a netball hoop but we're not sure. She has a bike, scooter, shared trampoline and swing set. I love outside stuff but am looking at a game of Twister for the crummy weather we get here.
DS is easier - clothes, DS super Mario, digi-piggy, new bike helmet and maybe a laptop (big maybe).
Still need help!

I am getting my nearly six year old a Barbie car/bus as her pressie fron Santa and I managed to get some barbie dolls from a friend pretty cheap too : ) They will be from me
baddmammajamma
We bought our kids (6 & 4) a 10 foot trampoline, which has already arrived and has been set up.

On Christmas morning, my 6 year old will get a little Squinkie pack to open...c'est tout! We are all about "the one major present" in our house! We've asked both sets of grandparents to contribute to the trampoline if they'd like, but our kids already have enough "stuff" to last a lifetime!
fruitbat72
Another trampoline here - she needs something to burn off all that energy - we bought a Vuly in hope that it will last a few years so DD2 can get use of it (joint present with DSD) - it is arriving early December so they will get it when it arrives

A scooter

A new school bag, plus new undies and socks

A new special dress

Not sure what else - maybe some costume dress ups as she loves them

We don't have a lot of $$ at the moment so she isn't getting a huge amount (I like the idea of the netball hoop though)
adnama

Her birthday is a few weeks later and I have a Lps set and lalaloopsy doll (baby one).
LifesGood
Wow, some very lucky little girls out there!

Keep the ideas coming pls, nothing has really jumped out at me yet, though I have to admit I have no idea what squinkies, lalaloopsy, zu zu or monster high toys are. Given that DD has never mentioned them it's probably safe to assume she doesn't want them or know what they are. The only thing she has asked for is a sticker book!

I'd like to get her some really good books with decent stories and great pictures as she loves reading these days, but without spending a couple of hours in a bookshop (if I can find one) I really don't know what is suitable.

What books are you giving your 6y/o's?
Polly Esther
DD is about 6.5 and will be getting...

A watch (I got one on eBay for about $20, plus $6 post - it's cute and offers help when figuring out that 3 is 15 minutes too, as it says this around the outside of the more obvious numbers - if I make any sense at all with this explanation... lol). THis one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110772506250?ss...984.m1497.l2649

Also got a few things from Amazon, so they better arrive in time (it says they should, but I'm paranoid)...
A "Walkables," LPS dog thing - she really wants one of these, even though I doubt it'll be used.
A remote controlled LPS car. It's about $20 cheaper on Amazon than in the shops here.
Scrabble and Monopoly Jr - approx $10 each!
2 DS games - Starfy and Tangled

I also got her a Billie B Brown book - it's 12 stories in 1 big book and was $18 at K-Mart. Good age-appropriate stories, with a book a little more advanced than a regular picture book (this is for DD to read herself - a lot of more advanced books have stories that are too grown up for her, but Billie B is just about a tomboy girl who does normal kid stuff).

And I got someone to make her something on Etsy. I had planned to do it myself, but was having troubles sourcing everything I needed... might have been able to find the bits and pieces online, but then had to find time to do it without her seeing... so instead got an Etsy seller to make it for me. She did a better job than I would have... lol. They're little bendy dolls, in a modern Strawberry Shortcake theme... http://www.etsy.com/transaction/64401096

OP - if you're looking for books, DD likes Billie B Brown as above, but also Pearlie. Pearlie is written by Wendy Harmer, and is about a fairy that lives in a suburban park. It has some nice colourful pictures - Billie B Brown doesn't.
japonica
OP- books my 5y/o DD is into: Tashi, Horrible Histories, Harry Potter... I'll probably get her a Horrible Science book for xmas- she hasn't seen them yet and they look just right!

The amount some of you must be spending on christmas is mind-boggling! I have an absolute maximum $100 per kid policy... If we don't get tickets to a show for them it'll be more like $60 each. Hope they never discover EB and feel ripped off original.gif
Polly Esther
How are the Tashi books PP? How many pages/word size/pictures like? etc.

I know I haven't spent too much - I got most things quite cheaply. THe most expensive thing I've gotten (individual thing) is the set from Etsy, and I felt I HAD to get those because I had told DD I'd make her some for Christmas... and then realised I couldn't in time. So that sucks... lol. But someone put effort into those, so I figure it's more than a reasonable price for 6 dolls.
lovemycanon

CaptainOblivious
DD1's 5. She's getting a v-motion gaming console and a bunch of games, a stack of books and a new bike.

She will also get her whole school uniform in a new personalised school bag. She's so excited about that. To be honest, I can't remember what else she's getting. I stockpile things I see through the year and then pull them all out mid december, check the kids have roughly the same amount of things, wrap them up and stash them in the shed.

Her favourite books are the Faraway Tree series (Enid Blyton). I think they're re-releasing the large illustrated versions soon. I'd get her a copy of those. We also have them on cd to listen to them in the car and we've read them to DD1 probably 6 times each. She absolutely adores them.
Bastet
my 6 yr old is getting

2 pet shop sets (plane and rescue centre)
pack of pet shop animals
hat
2 tops
2 ds games
and a light shade for her bedroom
and some books if I find any she will like
cinnabubble
My just turned five year old will be getting this book: http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Pippi-Long...n/9780192782410, along with pyjamas, art and craft stuff, a karaoke microphone, a DVD and other bits and pieces.

We're implementing austerity measures for both financial and non-materialistic reasons. They both have enough "stuff" to last them a long time and we don't have the resources to go all out this year, so it's back to basics.
mokeydoke
Both of my girls (almost 5 and 7.5) are just learning to swim so I'm probably getting them a summer pool pack with a hat, towel, goggles, dive sticks and flippers in a wetbag.

They are both getting a rainbow in my room - cheap from amazon.

My kids are right into animals and I've found the Steve parish finger puppet books great for early readers, and more advanced readers who just want a picture type book read.

They want elefun and hungry hippos.

threesacharm
Lego (she got the Belleville set last year and plays with it constantly, so got the beach set this year), a new bike and a sewing doll kit (ballarina). Thanks for the idea about the garden, might do this for my DD8.
Turn left
My nearly 6 yo DD is getting (for christmas and her birthday at the beginning of January);

Springfree trampoline (to share with her sister)- this turned up last week so they have it early
Board games- she loves playing board games
Skateboard and safety equipment (this is the only thing she's asked for shrug.gif )
New bathers
Wooden bead kit
Sticker books
Lego
A heap of bobble art stuff

We've done Zhu Zhu pets and barbie but they never get played with here. Not sure why, I loved barbie! I've heard lots of people talking about squinkies, but I still can't work out what they are???

Polly Esther
I think Squinkies are things you put on your pencils? Or are the Squinkies the things in little balls that you get a gumball dispenser type thing for? Either way, I think they're rubbish so DD is not getting any of those. Just more junk to take up space really. tongue.gif

DD1 is 5.5 yrs old. She's getting a wooden kitchen from Santa, from us and her brother and sister she'll also get a couple of books, some clothes including a new pair of bathers, a DVD and a few little things like coluring book/pencils, underware and hairties/clips.

DS will be 4 on Dec 30 - for Christmas he is getting his first two-wheel bike from Santa; his main birthday present is etch-a-sketch with some Duplo from his sisters; the rest of his Christmas presents will be similar to DD1's above.

DD2 is 2 yrs old and will get a Fisher Price Little People farm set from Santa, again her other presents will be similar to above.

They are also getting a few dressup items and some board games as family presents from Santa.

M2P
Our 5.5 yo DD is getting a DSi with 2 games from Santa and from us she is getting all the Strawberry Shortcake playsets she has marked in the catalogues as well as some stocking fillers including a couple of dvd's.
Meeche
dd 5.5 is getting:

Santa
Basketball and Hoop (insistent on this!! - and she is tiny!)
Lalaloopsy doll and clothes
LPS Walkables
bit and bobs for the stocking

From Us
Lego
Little Pet Shop Carrier Box
Make Your Own Lip Balm set
Lots of books
Glitter Lava Jewellery kit
Polly Pockets Set
Wii Game (tangled - was only $15 with a book! from Target!)
Wallet from Smiggle

Her and brother are both getting a Scooter ramp to share as well as Just Dance 3 and the Mr Bean animated DVDs.

I buy things throughout the year that are cheap plus shop online O/S to get the best deals.
Also, as both my kids birthdays are in May they basically have 2 times a year where they get anything. They rarely, if ever, get anything else in between birthday and xmas so I sometimes go a bit crazy at xmas. Must reign it in and I say it every year. Also, we never really give clothes. I always used to get clothes as a child as we didn't have much money and I hated it so much. I said I would never to my child!

mummy~2~two
My DD is 5 1/2 and this is what she is getting.

Santa - she gets one present from Santa
Apple tree house Lego set

Us
DSi 3D and a couple of games
Lego corner store set
Ikea wind up torch
Books x 1
PJ's
Sticker book
A couple of dresses

Nanna and Pa
Razor kick scooter
Lego

We have gone quite heavy on the Lego this year but we currently only have duplo and I was able to buy Lego for a great price from the US. I have been able to convince DD that she would love some 'big girl' Lego as we call it.
She doesn't know anything about the DS so I know will be very happy with her pressies.

Yes they are the little things in the balls. I got a pack for my DD8 when she was in hospital recently because she had been asking for them for months. She loves them. I got a 16 pack for $10 and they kept her busy and happy, but you are right, they are rubbish (I'm sick of them being scattered all over the floor!) and they will be forgotten about in a couple of weeks (or when I've vac'd them all up)!!!
zande
My just turned 5yo DD is getting:

From Santa:

Baby Alive (the new teeth one, not the really expensive one)
Leapfrog Explorer camera attachment
Tangled game for her Explorer
Aquasand set
Toy watch

Some pool stuff, goggles, squirter etc in her stocking

From us she is getting an art folder (personalised from Identity Direct), a couple of new outfits for the Baby Alive (hand-made by a friend) and a doll bed (IKEA one that her nana is making a set of manchester for as Nana's present!).

My DDs already have a trampoline and she got a bike for her bday last month!
LifesGood
Well I've managed to come up with a decent list for DD thanks to this thread and also to a lovely friend in Canada who let me know about a great deal online this morning.

So, here it is:

Ski gear for next winter (got a bib&brace, jacket, mittens and a beanie for around US110 including delivery!)
Second-hand bicycle I bought on eBay for $45 a couple of weeks ago (DH and I just need to clean it up a bit and add training wheels)
A 200 pc jigsaw puzzle and it's time for a roll-up puzzle mat I think.
Lego - Apple Tree House set
Pearlie books
Enid Blyton books
Something art & craft based that she can do without much adult help - not sure exactly what yet)

Thanks for all the ideas ladies.

I'll start making a list for her birthday which is 1st March now.....

Lifesgood -

My DD is 5 1/2 and I got her a ton of art & craft stuff from Amazon as she is an art & craft addict. In particular I got her these Melissa & Doug stamps and I know she is going to be excited! wink.gif

http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Butterf...p/dp/B003BF7SME

I also got her a few other stamp sets, a beading set, a Lego belville watch, a few DSi games from eBay, and some squinkies. We also bought from www.landsend.com a personalised bag and lunch box for her and her two brothers for school next year. I just need to get a few little things for their stockings.

This year we were trying hard not to spend over $100 each as we are going on holiday for 3 weeks over christmas, so i'm very pleased with my shopping efforts! wink.gif

Wow I'm really out of the loop with a lot of the toys mentioned. Have no idea what people are talking about. Maybe my DD will ask for more specific 'trendy' things once she starts school next year?

I've ordered some Djeco craft sets as art is her passion and she'll also be getting some books. She's asked for some Lego too. Other than that, I have no idea. I do like the theatre tickets idea though.

No, I haven't heard of most of them either and my DD started school this year. We don't watch commercial TV so maybe it's that? Will look into the Djeco range, thanks for the tip.

Topendcrew - I like those Melissa & Doug stamp kits, they look right up DDs street.

I'm so glad for this post as DDs grandpa has just asked me to get a present for her and I'm really stumped original.gif I can think of a heap of useful school type things but I know they would like to get her something she's really excited by original.gif lucky chicken original.gif Any suggestions around $50 - $100?
She is getting a bike, has a scooter. I was thinking maybe roller skates or a powerwing? Does anyones LO have either of these? I would love to get her the big dollhouse at big w this week but the reviews for it sound like its pretty dodge. I was going to get her the kidkraft one from amazon for her birthday next year in the sales after christmas so maybe I should wait for that as it looks better.
Any other suggestions?
Oh, from me she's getting some walkie talkies, a skipping rope, a make a clock kit from aldi, some drawing stuff, and a rocking horse if I magically finish fixing it up in time (it may or may not have spent a rather long time sitting in the garage in bits lols:)
Akatara
I shouldn't open these threads...
I can't believe how much some kids get. Mine usually get one thing from Santa, and a couple of little games or books to open. Usually three things max, and say 200 or so. This year it's maybe 100 each.
Eg. A scooter, or a dsi, or an iPod, or Lego, Or littlest pet shop.
They get little things from rellies like books, clothes, games. Nothing more than say 20-40 dollar pressies.my kids don't really want for anything. They are happy to get one pressie. So if they get three or four big pressies, then what do they get for birthdays, or when they are 8 or 10. DD 8 is getting an iPod for her eight bday, so dd 5 can wait till she is eight. Lol.
We never used to do pressies from us, as dd bday is in jan too, but A couple of pressies were not too well hidden, so they will become pressies from mum and dad. Sounds like some must have big pressie cupboards..... I struggled to hide four thing!

We purchased our son a new, remote control car -after 5 minutes he ran it down a drain and the current took it away, along with $350 literally down the drain. OMG.
