Hi im Stevie, This is number 3,

After being mistreated with my previous two pregnancys, i have recently changed doctors. My DD has an appt today so i am going to ask when this surgery wants to see me / book me for an appointment.

Im not certain of dates. By LMP i shoudl be due on the 1st. However im not certain on when i Ovulated. I though i Ovulated on CD23, but that wouldnt give me a + on an ebay cheapy at 7dpo LOL.

We shall see soon. Ill repost back with the findings from DDs appt about when i will see a doc and book in for scan.. eeeep original.gif

Not due October, however I personally would go with your latest 'maybe' date, then calculate when 7 and a half weeks would be. That would be when I booked the dating ultrasound, because if the pregnancy goes well, you would see a heartbeat by that time.

My current pregnancy was unplanned, and I had a dating ultrasound at what ended up being 6.5 weeks. We didn't see anything but a sac, even though you often get a heartbeat by that time. I had to wait a week for the follow up ultrasound, knowing that there was a 50/50 chance that the baby might not make it. Worst week of my life! Next time I would definitely book the ultrasound a few days later!

Hi Stevie,

My first doctors appointment is next Saturday (the 4th) and she will refer me for my scan then. I love my doctor so I'm lucky there! I go to a Women's Wellbeing Clinic, where all the doctors are ladies, and some specialise in pre-natal care. I stumbled on them a few years ago and love them all.

I have decided to go with a midwife, who I've already been pencilled in with, she's just waiting on the doctors referral, and then she'll come and do an in home 'check up' for me and have a meeting with me and my husband to talk us through what will happen over the next 8 or so months. (apart from growing a baby, obviously! lol!)

I'll update when I know when my first scan will be... Eeeep! It's SO exciting! original.gif

Hi Ladies, Nice to hear from you.

Well im back from the docs for DD 1yr old shots. And the verdict is. We need to be seen between before 6-8 weeks to book in for early dating scan and bloods.
So im off to the docs on 06.02.12 original.gif EEEEEP!!! Also couldnt help myself and bought a digi test in town. It was positive (with watery clear wee at midday) and got a "Pregnant 1-2" So
yey...

That's great news Stevie... I got my BFP the other day, but I'm now so paranoid that it's going to not work out that I want another few HPT's to reassure me every couple of days that I'm still pregnant!! I know, I'm a crazy person wink.gif Besides, surely the sore boobs, extreme tiredness, heart burn and excess wind should be telling me I'm still UTD! LOL!! But I must say, I'm loving every symptom I get... I actually find them really reassuring!

Hi all

I went to see my GP today (well, actually a new female GP who does shared care recommended by someone on EB as my usual GP is away until March) and glad I did, as she was really friendly and supportive and helped me figure out my options. Took bloods and urine as well, so will be good to get those results soon!

I also have a referral for my hospital of choice which has a midwifery group practice, so fingers crossed I'll get in...can't call until Monday, arrghhhhh! Have actually booked into the birth centre at my second choice hospital as a back-up plan.

Cuba, how does it work with a private midwife? Do they have delivery rights at particular public hospitals, or do you have to go private? I didn't upgrade my PHI in time, so going public but fine with that as I work in the public hospital system myself...can't give birth at my own hospital though luckily, couldn't stand all my colleagues being RIGHT THERE!

Oh and wanting to do multiple tests seems to be normal...I have done one every day since my first BFP, so 6 days now! All ICs though, haven't caved and bought a digital one yet. We'll see how I go with that one! My frequent testing is probably due to my relatively few symptoms though...sore boobs and some cramping/stretching feelings but no increased appetite, extreme tiredness, nausea, funny tastes or anything like that. I shouldn't really be wishing to feel worse but I agree that EPS are reassuring!

Hi! original.gif

I went to the Drs yesterday.. I had to go anyway because my son is having his next round of allergy testing at RCH next week and he needed a new referral.. so I figured I may as well kill 2 birds with one stone.
I will wait probably 2wks to get my scan done though... I don't want to run the risk that there will be no heartbeat yet.

I have a drs appt on friday. My midwife would also write a referal but I need to see my gp anyway on another matter.

Cubalulu, are you homebirthing or hospital birthing with your midwife?
Jaxons_Mum
I have booked a Drs appointment at 6 weeks and will go for a dating scan at 7 weeks. I am pretty sure of my dates but I would just like to see bub and make sure there is a heartbeat.
annsam
Jaxons_mum, if you want to have a scan at 7 weeks it may pay to book it before you get your referal if your clinic is anything like ours which had a three week waiting list.

Hi Ladies,

I have been referred to my Midwife from a close friend, she is registered with the Midwife Group Practice and she operates out of the Mater Mother's Hospital in Brisbane. She has recently registered to be able to work in both the public AND private sections of the hospital (for those who don't know, the public and private parts are just different sections of the same hospital, and it's a very highly regarded hospital in Brisbane).

So I'm not sure yet if I'm going to go public or private. My PH cover will kick in about 2 months before baby is due so it is an option for us. But I have heard from a lot of ladies (I work with children so have heard a LOT of stories!) that there isn't a huge difference between the public and private wards at the MMH.... apart from a much bigger bill! So financially I am leaning towards going public. I get the midwife who I have chosen either way.

After I go to the doctor to confirm everything and she passes the official referral on to my midwife, she (my midwife) will call me and come around to my house to go over it all with my DH and I and talk about my options so we can lock it all in with the hospital. I imagine she will do that next week.

Cams
Well I've now booked myself into the doctors approx 2 days before 5 weeks. For those getting early scans, how have you managed to get them? Never seen the doctor I'm going to and not sure what her views will be on an early scan. Would love the chance to hear bubs heart beat and know things are progressing well as we're both anxious having see our friends go through so many miscarriages
JungleFlower2012
Hi Cams

I always book my early scan for between 6-8 weeks. Thats when they should hear a heartbeat (even if its internal)..
If your worried your doctor may say no to it, just let them know your not certain on your due date and they will send you for it..

Stevie

(somewhere over 5 weeks lol.)
J4CQUI
I have booked in for my dating scan next Thursday, the 9th. I should be somewhere between 6wks 2 days and 6wks 4 days ...

Cams ~ I did the same as Stevie... just told them I wasn't sure how far along I was. Good Luck!
Cams
Lol thanks girls, its not a complete lie, for me its a matter of only two days that I'm not completely sure about. Hope the doctor believes me and sends me for the scan and then I'll just make sure I book in for when I know I'll be around the 7 to 8 week mark
OMG Finally!!
I have an obs appt on 1st March and he said he will do all the scans then (I will be 8-9 weeks by then)... but I have to go to a gp and get a referral before then.. wondering if I can get another scan too? hmmmm.
Eeyolet
I see my GP on the 14th and will get a referral for a dating scan then. Hopefully I can get an appointment the next week so that would put me at 6.5-7 weeks.
bikingbubs
I am going to see my GP on thursday for bloods and to get a referral for a scan.
I am actually not 100% on how far along I am as I just had my implanon taken out at the start of jan so who knows original.gif
I think im 4 weeks now, so will have a scan at around 7 weeks I think just to check!
PurpleChicken
Hi all! I'm planning on seeing the doctor next Saturday (by my calcs I'll be 5 weeks). I'm probably going to aim for a scan around the 10 week mark like I did with DD. That way I KNOW there'll be a heart beat (all going well) and they can give me a more accurate date too. Though I use OPK's so my date's pretty good biggrin.gif.
geishagirl
Cams, my GP actually offered me an early scan as she said it was good to check that the embryo was in the uterus and not ectopic so I didn't have to be vague about dates or anything. I'll get a referral when I go back on Tue for blood results. You never know, you may just be offered one like me. Good luck!

GG
JungleFlower2012
A BIT NERVOUS!! First real appointment for pregnancy today at 11.15am!! Will get blood ect... Im between 5-6 weeks (lmp = 6 weeks, but im confused on exact ovulation day ehehehe)

Hi Stevie

I keep checking here to see how your first appointment went but since there is no update I am prompted to ask -- how did you go? original.gif
Vanilla-Cupcakes
Well I'm lucky enough to already have my midwife lined up, and I will be seeing her through MGP. She also looked after me with the miscarriage.

She is organizing an US for me at 6-7 weeks, and we'll go from there!
JungleFlower2012
bebemakes3 sorry about the delay hun. I wasnt really fond on my doc. AN HOUR LATE... so was trying to rush me out (not a very good first impression!!) Then she said because my cycles are erratic to work off my longrest cycle of 36 days, and that makes me 3 weeks along (i had knowen for almost 3 weeks ... wth?)
anyway, i have a scan booked for this friday and cant wait. will def update asap after it original.gif

Vanilla-Cupcakes good to hear you ahve a midwif lines up i cant wait to hear how the apps go original.gif

What a nutto doctor Stevie. Glad you have your scan organised though. Jealous that it's this Friday biggrin.gif.

My scan is booked for 17th March, so another 4 weeks!!! cry1.gif And because I'm not having an NT scan, that will be my last until my morph scan at 20 weeks. That's the only thing I don't like about going public. Not enough scans sad.gif.
bebemakes3
StevieRaines hmmm how confusing and boo to that Dr blink.gif ... but, on the flipside, yay for your scan this Friday bbighug.gif ... looking forward to hearing about it all.
Miss Lily
Stevie - how did your scan go on Friday? Hoping you got to see a nice strong heartbeat! Is it confirmed now how far along you are?

I've got a referral for my dating scan to be done sometime this week. My GP said to plan it for the end of the week so I'm closer to 7 weeks (I'm 6 weeks 1 day by my own calculations today) She said this way I'm much more likely to be able to see the heartbeat rather than not and freak out about why it wasn't there when really it could've just been early. So I think I'll book it in for Friday.

Ok - TMI question coming up - what is it like having an internal scan? Is it as yucky as it sounds? this is my first pregnancy so I'm sure I have a whole host of yuckiness to look forward to until bubs is here! wink.gif
bikingbubs
Internal scans arent the norm unless there is a specific reason for doing it. No idea what one feels like though as I have never had one original.gif All mine have just been normal ultrasounds, which are still fun with someone pushing on your super full bladder rant.gif
JungleFlower2012
scan went awesome.

Bubba measured at 11th of october. Heartbeat of 130BPM great original.gif

Internals arent that bad, ... doctor (last preg) asked me to put it in, then did it after that, feels wierd, but not bad.

just awkward.

Stevie
Vanilla-Cupcakes
My very first ultrasound has been booked- a dating scan next Friday the 2nd. I'm terrified.

Terrified they won't see a heart. Terrified it will be an ectopic. Terrified they won't see anything at all. Or terrified the dates will be way off meaning an unsuccessful pregnancy.

Yes...a lot of anxiety going on right now! I'm so desperate to have a perfect healthy baby. I can't lose another one sad.gif
JungleFlower2012
Hey Vanilla

Dont worry about measuring behind. Look at me. My LMP = 1st of October... but bubba is dating 11th of october and nice and healthy.

Im sure your ok, but the anxiety is normal, i was flipping out... OH AND BY THE WAY before they zoom in the sac looks empty. dont flip out. i did.lol.. she was like - its ok, i still have to zoom in lol.

Stevie

Hi all

I am likely to go public at Hornsby Hospital. However, they do not give you an appointment until you are 14 weeks and the only scan they prescribe would be at 20 weeks ... I am freaked out to hear that we are only getting 01 ultrasound. So what am I supposed to do for the rest of the time?

I had my first child in VIC, where they would give you a scan at 9, 11 (the NT) and 20 something (may not be entirely accurate).

Please somebody enlighten me on how many scans I am supposed to do and at what point?!

Thanks!!!!

irisis
Hi Alluneedislove, I'm booked in with my public hospital too and my first appointment isn't until about 14 weeks as well. I've been going to my GP as well, she's great and I just asked her to refer me for a dating scan and she had no problems doing this for me.
So this Saturday just gone I had the dating scan, and I already have a referral from her for my 12 week NT scan. If you already have a GP maybe you should see them and get your scans referred.

So scans you can get are the dating scan - Dr's recommend this one after 7 weeks so you can see the heartbeat, NT scan - between 11 and 14 weeks, Morphology scan at 20 weeks (what the hospital normally does) and that's as far as my knowledge goes!
clarisse83
Hi all

I had a dating scan last week which put me at 5w5d - too early to be able to hear a heartbeat sad.gif The technician said that I should go back in a week or two so that I can check that all is ok ... do I just go back to my GP for another referral? Is it normal to have another scan?
JungleFlower2012
the earliest i ever heard a heartbeat was 6w 1d... in others i sisnt see it till later, so i would go back. id just re book in the scan place and say they said to come back original.gif
Stevie
Alluneedislove
Thank you irisis. Glad to see my understanding is not too far off Tounge1.gif

I'm having an appointment with an ob at week 9 (he has an ultrasound machine at his clinic so maybe I will have my dating scan then). He will take it from there (with the NT scan referral and all) until I move on at week 14 :-)

My GP prescribed the blood tests for me but I did not know that she could have given referral for ultrasounds as well (She said she was not trained to do "shared care" so I just assumed she would not deal with pregancy at all).

Anyway, it feels good to know there is someone out there who is going through similar things as you and who could give you an answer when you need it most. Thanks again.

oooh, alluneedislove, you just reminded me that my OB appointment is at 10 weeks and she has an ultrasound machine in her room and apparently does a scan at the first appointment anyway original.gif I'll just wait until then rather than going back to the ultrasound place.
