Hi Just me, Stevie, Again.

Are you taking any multivitamins? At the moment, im addicted to potato , sweet potato and pumkin, which isnt the healthiest but it seems to be all that doesnt "come back up!" so im still taking my mulitvitamins. I am on elevit. Have been for almost 6 months now.

Are you taking anything? I know very shortly ill have to go onto my iron tablets, because i get aneamic in my pregnancys... And after my heamorage last time i know how important it is ot have good iron stores original.gif

Sweet potato is full of vitamin c and beta carotenes! It is good for you and the baby.
I think most women crave white carbs in pregnancy and if it's all you can eat then it's fine lol.
I'm not in this group but I took Blackmores Pregnancy and breastfeeding tablets the entire time I was pregnant.
Certainly can't hurt to stay on them a while longer till you get back to a more varied diet.

I have had a real craving for jacket potatoes this week, and hadn't really linked it to pregnancy - doh! Might have one for lunch actually. original.gif

I am taking Swisse Pregnancy + Ultivite and Cenovis Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Formula, and have been for about 4 months now. I take both, as I wanted to up my intake of folate, iron and zinc but not as much as in Elevit.

Stevie, I am surprised you need more iron if taking Elevit as it has a large dose in it. Saying that, I am not convinced it all gets absorbed as other vits in there can have an effect on that.

Just started taking Blckmores. See how I go!

I personally dont see any need to take multivitamins unless your blood results show defficiencies. I took folic acid in the early stages, and now am on iron tabs because im a bit low, but have not taken any pregnancy multivitamins as such. The companies that make these expensive concoctions would like to make you believe that you need them....

I am taking Elevit and have been for the last 3 months. I will continue to take it throughout the pregnancy and until I finish breastfeeding.

With my first pregnancy I just took folate for the first 3 months, and did the same with my second pregnancy but then I got sick and just couldn't seem to shake it. I was sick for weeks at around 3 months pregnant. My sister suggested Elevit and I started on it and felt better within a few days. I felt fantastic for the rest of the pregnancy so I have done the same thing for all subsequent pregnancies, and I never seem to get overly sick. (touchwood...)

I was taking a pregnancy multi, then magnesium, DHA and zinc to prepare for pregnancy on advice of a naturopath. I also take Caltrate (Vit D & Calcium) plus iron for my own medical history. When I saw my GP yesterday she said to stay on everything I was taking as it was good for throughout the pregnancy also.

I take blackmore multi every morning. Along with high dose folate (SIL has spina bifida) and some iron tonic mixture because i'm anaemic.

At night I take calcium/magnesium because I think my teeth suffer badly during pregnancy so this time I"m going to take calcium to see if that helps.

when i found out i was pregnant, i started taking elevit... only coz my iron levels are so low in general , its probably why i feel so washout these days sad.gif

I have blackmores but I have been feeling nauscious all day so havent really felt like taking them. Guess I probably should just take them.

I am just taking folate ATM, and will start iron in the 2nd trimester. My iron levls were fine, and last time I took elevit it made me constipated, oh the joys!

I've been taking Elevit since I found out I was pregnant. I completely get your sweet potato and potato cravings, having the same...although I prefer my potato in the form of hashbrowns with tomato sauce ohmy.gif

I'm another also using elevit & iron tablets. Makes me horribly sick, so I take a break for a couple of days if I need to.

I'm taking Blackmores Gold pregnancy and breastfeeding, and apart from the difficulty in swallowing the enormous things, I'm not really having any problems with them. I found out very late (9 weeks) that I was expecting, so I'm concerned that I wasn't taking folate before/after conceiving, but too late to stress about it now.

I'm not really craving anything at the moment - although anything that's made for me is much more appetising than something that I have to make for myself.
MelodyNelson
I can't take any supplement containing iron due to me being a carrier for haemochromatosis (iron overload), so I'm just taking folic acid and iodine. I should take Vitamin D as well but the weather, until today, has been glorious so thought it better to try and get it naturally!
JulesMc
I'm on the elevit and will stay on it till I finish breastfeeding. I am the same in that I have also been craving potatoes, rice, pasta....!

I wouldn't take anything extra cause of the elevit but obviously whatever the Dr says!

Stevie I have read a few times that vitamin c helps absorb iron. You probably can't stomach it but I've also been craving orange juice, so that might help you with the iron absorption.
