RSPCA improving tenant laws

The research done by the task force reveals that tenancy problems are one of the leading causes of animals being surrendered to pounds and the RSPCA - and of course their deaths.

The Discussion Paper comes out on Monday. I urge you all to have a think about what we (Aussies) can do to stop the killing of so many animals each year, and let the Task Force know.

I heard about this proposal a while ago and I think it's a great idea.. I would adopt an RSPCA kitty.. or two in a second if they allowed it.
I just did a quick search on Allhomes and in ACT only approx 5% of all rentals listed allow pets!

Any pet damage should be taken from the normal bond if the renters don't fix things anyway, but if a separate bond helps I would do it. We have always, if anything, improved the places we have lived.. not all renters destroy their homes. In fact, at the moment, it's the owners not fixing obvious problems or maintaining things that is causing any devaluation here.

I dragged DH out to the RSPCA a few weeks ago, because I thought bugger it.. but we didn't because I didn't want to risk the roof over our heads. DH fell in love with a 3yr old ginger they had and I with a 3yr old blue burmese I have always wanted.. so sad. They would have been well loved.

The Discussion Paper has been released.

Please read and answer the online survey if you're of a mind to have your say about pet related issues. Although it is about NSW's issues, it is likely to strongly influence other states, so don't let that stop you expressing your opinion on puppy farms, back yard breeders, registration, micro chipping, dangerous dogs, roaming cats and dogs, euthanasia and the alarming numbers of animals PTS each year.

It won't take much of your time, and they've made it easy to respond.
