Hi all,

Anyone done or currently doing this course? I believe it's external study through the University of Tasmania with work placements at St Vincents in Sydney. I think it's unique in that it's only a 2yr degree but quite intensive.

Any advice about costs involved, study workload (hrs per week), work placements etc would be really appreciated. I work part time and have a small family.

Thanks, Lisa original.gif

Hi Lisa,

I'm not familiar with this particular course, sorry. I don't know if your aware that universities that work in Trimesters like Deakin have the same possibility.

You can "potentially" finish a 3 year degree in 2 years. For example, my degree is 3 years full time over 2 trimesters per year. The 3rd trimester (over summer) is optional. Not all units are offered though, but it's still possible to finish the degree in 2 years if all the units you needed to cover were available in Trimester three.

Thanks UpsyDaisy, I wasn't aware of that, I just assumed a standard degree is three years. Will do some more research, thanks again!

A standard degree is three years. The UTAS course would be the same, but because they run courses over summer, you can fast track it to complete in 2 years. Any other uni that runs on a trimester system as PP mentioned would be the same.

Be warned though: Completing in 2 years will mean full time, 4 subjects across 3 terms without any study breaks. Last year I studied full time terms 1 and 2, then picked up 2 subjects in term 3 to speed mine up a bit, and it was extremely hard. Kids were home on school holidays, Chrismas, Summer, I had zero motivation to study and only just scraped through.
