Can anyone help me please? My mum owns a DC 23 motorhead and we LOVE it. The time has come to make my own vacuum purchase and rather than spend $1100, I'm wondering if I can get the new allergy model (either barrel or upright) if the heads are essentially the same (separately motorised on/off, not reliant on suction power). I realise on newer models Dyson call this a 'trigger head' due to the on/off not being on the head itself.
Can anyone shed any light as to if they're the same? I'm hours away from a retailer so can't pop in for a demo!
I would call Dyson Australia - I hear they have great customer service so they should be able to tell you.

I have the Motorhead and it is brilliant. Call or Email Dyson - I emailed them with a whole lot of questions and they were great.
And don't pay $1100. You can negotiate in store or I found a couple of places on line for cheaper. I think we paid $780 in the end. We mentioned we found it on line for $800 and they beat the offer.

I have a DC23 Animal - and its not the same. The Motorhead has a power connection down to the head which the Animal just doesn't have.
I have mostly wooden floors though so a motorhead is fairly useless for me.
Also - find the best price you can online & take it into a shop to get it price matched. I got about $300 knocked off the price by doing that.

If you are in Sydney, I was at Costco on the weekend and they have the current Dyson Allergy for i think $640 or $650.

Lucky you! Green with envy!
I've been using my mum's motorhead for a few years now once a week and using my $hitty LG in between, but now that's crapped itself and I need to vacuum more than once a week!

I bought my Dyson today after much deliberation I decided to go with the DC41 animal upright. We don't have animals, but close to it with three children - it has both the motorhead and the largest dust barrel for the uprights, so will hopefully save my back instead of pushing my mums Motorhead barrel around!
It's most definitely love at first sight!

I have a dyson allergy. I was totally bamboosled when looking at all the dysons and asked lots of questions. Basically, the barrels on every one except the entry level (cant remember its name, sorry) and the highest level one, are exactly the same. You can also purchase the power head separately which fits to all of them.
