DH and i meal plan each week before we do the shopping so we keep the costs under control. The main issue we have with doing this is we both have certain meals we are good at/like to make so we tend to eat the same things over and over again.

We have decided that we will cook 1 new dish each week for the next few months just to get a bigger meal choice.

Soooo i'm in need some help from all the foodies on EB. I'm sure this has been done before but oh well...it's being done again. Can you share with me your favorite meals (with recipies if you have them) so we can start trying some new things. Dh is a real meat eater so vego meals will not go down very well. We both pretty much eat most things so fire away!

TIA.

i'd be tempted to buy a super food ideas mag (or something like it) and go through and try each recipe. they're usually cost effective, and most i've tried are easy/taste good.

also try taste.com.au - 30 minute meals i think it is. I love that website when I am looking for new ideas.

Our new family favourite.

And I agree with PP. I love Super Food Ideas. Lots of good, easy and cheap recipes.

I make a Mexican meatballs dish I saw recently in a magazine - easy and adapted to suit. Combine:One chopped onion; 1 kilo pork and veal mince (I use heart smart beef); 1/2 cup chopped coriander; 1 egg; 1 - 2 tsp ground cumin
(I also chop up any veggies I have and add - carrot, capsicum, mushrooms etc - may need another egg to hold it together)
Pan fry or bake in oven (about 180 degrees) until almost cooked (approx 30 mins in oven)
Combine 1 tin salt reduced, condensed tomato soup and jar of preferred salsa and add to meatballs, cook until all warmed through (about another 10 mins in oven).
Sprinkle with chopped spring onions and more coriander and serve with brown rice and greens. Yum

Another easy recipe was from the million kilo challenge - sticky chicken. Combine 1/3 cup of each of soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce and crunchy peanut butter and melt over low heat in a saucepan (stirring) until smooth. Let cool. Pour over 500g chicken (I cut chicken breast into big pieces) and marinate for half an hour or more. Cook in oven or pan fry. Best if cooked in oven, about 180 degrees, about 25 mins. As with recipe above, sprinkle with coriander and serve with greens, and/or rice. Delicious!

I make thai chicken balls with rice and steamed veggies.

The link below has the basic recipe however we put all the green stuff in the food processor and whiz until cut finely. Then throw the rest of the ingredients in and whiz till combined. Then instead of shallow frying we put them in the oven at 180C for 12min All up the the whole meal takes about 20 min

ETA: Great for freezing as well

Do you have many cook books? When I need ideas igo through all my books and choose out a few recipes to try. I use my Jamie Oliver books a lot as he seems to do some good quick meals. If you go toJamie's website you'll get some of his recipes as well.

I love pasta, and my DH is a real carnivore, so I can't do a regular spag bog too often! Here are our two of our favourites. I've portioned them to serve two.

Chorizo with egg pasta
1 chorizo sausage
1 clove minced garlic
1 spring onion, thinly sliced
3-4 mushrooms, roughly chopped
1 tomato, roughly chopped
1/4 cup pitted black olives
Plain tomato pasta sauce/passata
Egg pasta
Parmesan cheese

Fry garlic and onion. Add chorizo. Add other ingredients, stir until cooked. Serve over al dente egg pasta with grated parmesan.

Prawns in parsley butter sauce with egg pasta
250 grams green prawn meat - don't get cutlets, they're a pita
1 clove garlic
1 spring onion
Tablespoon butter
Chili flakes
White wine (buy a $5 cleanskin for cooking if you're not into drinking)
Lemon
2 tabs finely chopped parsley (pare it down if your partner is like mine and picks it out rolleyes.gif )
Egg pasta
Parmesan cheese
Cracked black pepper

Saute garlic and onion in buter. Add a dash of white wine, chili flakes to taste and a squeeze of lemon. Add prawns and stir until almost cooked. Add drained, cooked egg pasta and stir until prawns are fully cooked. Serve sprinkled with parmesan and cracked black pepper

This recipe also goes down very well - http://allrecipes.com.au/recipe/8353/beer-...-casserole.aspx

Wow thanks everyone...these all sounds great so think we will have to give them all a go.

Badkitteh i do have a few cookbooks but find when i choose something from them it doesnt quite hit the spot. Was just hoping to get some tried and true recipes that taste great.

Fluster that prawn pasta recipe should go down a treat...we love garlic prawns. Every couple of weeks we have home made pizza on the menu and always have a garlic prawn pizza as a starter.

I'm on maternity leave at the moment and I've committed to cooking 1-2 new meals per week as well. The Taste app on my iPad definitely helps and I just save all the dishes we love to my favourites.

Here are a couple that my family have loved. I also usually put extra veggies in both dishes.
