Hi Lovelies!

I am wondering about bottle sterilisers

Do you have a preferred one? WIth my first i had an avent steam one that went in the microwave. With number 2 (and i think i still have it) i had a tommee tippee one that went in the microwave.
I liked them. But i want to know about electric ones. How they work & if they are easier? Did you use an electric one? Was it easier? Can you tell me how they work (clearly not the mechanics lol) but filling/emtying water etc

Thanks ladies!

It is actually recommended to NOT sterilise your bottles. So save yourself the money and your time

Just wash them in hot soapy water, then rinse and air dry.

What, not sterilise bottles, who actually recomends this? I know it is not required after 6 months but have never heard of it before 6 months.
I use an Avent electric steriliser and love it. You wash everything with hot soapy water and then poor a little water in the bottom to the fill line and put the lid and press the button - done!
The steamer I have is now on its 5th baby, its had a massive workout and is still going. I like it as it takes about 8 minutes and fits 6 bottles and teats etc so only requires to be used once a day. I also used it to sterilise my medela breat pump parts as well

BTW OP, after 6 months bottles and teats etc can go in the dishwasher. you can buy a special little cage for the top rack of the diswasher for the teats, rings etc

I bought an Avent one - waste of money.
Your better off putting them in the dishwasher and then boiling them in a pot of water on the stove.
Ive found if you scrub them and then put them in the Avent it doesnt get rid of the fatty film.
To get them really clean and sterlised the old fashioned way works the best.
I sterlised DS's bottles until he was about 8 months and still used cooled boiling water until he was about one.

I also had an electric advent steriliser. It was the best purchase, so much easier and less time consuming than using the "boil on the stovetop" method.
You just put in the 90ml of water in the bottom and click the button

I had my first child in 2006 and he was in the scn for 9 weeks and the nurses there told us not to sterilise. And the chn also told all new mums this.
There is no harm in sterilizing, but it's just an added thing you can do which isn't necessary.

Interesting - I'm wondering about this too. So, you just wash with warm soapy water and rinse well?

Each to their own. I loved my electric avent steriliser. 8mins of steaming hot germ killing goodness for piece of mind.
Once DS was approx 6 months we just used hot soapy water.
