Dh needs to put in an amendment, he did etax and ended up paying the Medicare levy, but we are a single income family and shouldnt have paid it.

Ive tried searching but I cant find the right forms to amend the return. Does anyone know what they are called, and how to avoid the same mistake this time around.
Grrrumbles
Google ato tax return amendment request for the information. He can also ring and they should be able to look at his last return and confirm what he should have answered at the medicare question. Are you sure he shouldn't have paid it? Being single income is not enough.

I'd recommend calling first as Grrrumbles suggested to make sure he has the right details.

Yes Ive checked the requirements. We didnt earn over 160k as a family

If he entered all his details correctly then maybe he does actually have to pay it? E-tax wouldnt apply it if he doesn't have to pay it unless he answered the questions wrong. Doesn't the medicare levy apply as soon as you earn over 20-30k or something?

Or are you talking about the surcharge?

Thats for the surcharge, not the levy.

Did he pay the surcharge or the levy?

Surcharge, I believe. Excuse if Ive used the incorrect terminology, he got charged for being over the income threshold for a single person (80k) and not having PHI, however the thresholds are different for families. I want to recover if possible the money. Im sorry if Im being a massive douchey PITA using incorrect terms.

So he didn't declare he had a spouse when he filled out his tax return? That's a big mistake to correct... but if you were married before last financial year I guess its easy to prove

He did the etax, in a total rush. I think that was why.

We've been married for a few years now. Hes a goon.

I had to do an amendment once & I wrote the ATO a letter, which they accepted.
