Princess Eugenie has taken to social media to reveal her battle with scoliosis.

The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson shared her personal X-rays on Instagram along with a message of thanks to the hospital where she underwent surgery at age 12.

"Today is International Scoliosis Awareness Day and I'm very proud to share my X Rays for the very first time," she wrote.

"I also want to honour the incredible staff at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital who work tirelessly to save lives and make people better. They made me better and I am delighted to be their patron of the Redevelopment Appeal."

In a video released for the campaign, the Princess recalled how nervous she felt in the days leading up to her operation during which surgeons inserted eight-inch titanium rods into her spine.

"After three days in intensive care, I spent a week on a ward and six days in a wheelchair, but I was walking again after that."

"I'm living proof that all these young people who have the same thing I have, maybe more so, or not, I have done it, I've been through it, and I want to be able to help as much as I can."
