Have you ever hidden from your kids so that you can enjoy a piece of chocolate or sugar laden treat in peace? If you haven't, it's only a matter of time – it's a parenting rite of passage along with regretfully admitting that this parenting lark is harder than it looks.
So we can all relate to Ashley Gardner, who vlogged about eating a sweet treat in the privacy of her pantry.
"Dad's out shovelling the driveway, mum desperately needed a treat to get through the rest of the night, so I'm hiding in the pantry," she said on the video.
"I'm just eating a treat, is that wrong? They don't ever go away. They want everything you have."
At that point the mum bends down and points the camera at the door, where one of her toddlers can be seen peeping under the bottom.
"See, she's always there," the mum added, before her daughter shouted: "Hi"
While we can all relate, it's worth noting that Gardener is mum to quads. That's right – she has four toddlers tracking her every move!
Speaking to TODAY Gardener says other parents could relate to the feeling of loving your kids while also needing a quick break from them. "They don't ever go away — and that's not a bad thing!" she said.
"But when I want a treat 15 minutes before bedtime, and they can't have a bunch of sugar before they're about to go to sleep ... I need to hide and take a bite so I can be ready for them."
Gardener and her husband struggled with infertility for years before conceiving quads Indie, Esme, Scarlett and Evie via IVF. The proud mum notes that she doesn't take any part of motherhood for granted – including hiding in the pantry eating lollies!
"They are my biggest, greatest blessing ... Our situation is unique, but I would not change it for anything else," she said.
