Reasons to visit Bellingen

Sample the bush tucker of the Gumbaynggirr people, picnic on the banks of the Never Never River or go modern and try Oak Street Food & Wine or Hyde Wine and Food Bar.

White water and surf rafting doesn't get any better than the wild rapids, steep gorges and lush rainforest of the Nymboida River in the Coffs Coast hinterland. Or join a group aboard an inflatable rubber raft and catch a wave at the beach.

The local part of the Waterfall Way on the New England Tableland features Newell and Sherrard Falls between Bellingen and Dorrigo plus the Dorrigo Rainforest with its forest walks and Skywalk.

A local's top tips

Chelzea Warwick, Manager, IGA Bellingen

"Wherever possible, we source locally. Garlic, mushrooms, pumpkins, and other in season produce. Bellingen Pasta is a big seller for us along with the seafood from Bellingen Smokehouse.

Our customers are very health conscious and gluten-free and organic products are huge for us. Organic outsells the normal lines, especially from the dairy case. Nimbin Valley cheeses, olive oil, alto misto olives and Barambah yoghurts are particularly popular.

Don Cummings from Coastal Fine Foods is our cheese guru and has been great for us. The brie and Guilloteau – Fromager D'Affinois are delicious.

We also have fresh wraps, Turkish rolls, baguettes, quiches, quinoa balls and salads all made fresh daily in our store."
