It’s no secret that supermodel Cindy Crawford has passed her stunning looks onto her 11-year-old daughter Kaia. It certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed by the modelling industry.
Earlier this year, the then ten-year-old Kaia scored her first solo modelling gig in the spring/summer 2012 Young Versace print campaign.
But as the pictures made the rounds online a deafening sound of disapproval soon followed. The public chastised Crawford for allowing her young daughter to pose in a leather jacket and miniskirt for the campaign.
While Crawford has since put her daughter’s career on hold, she has said she won’t stop Kaia from pursuing the profession that has been so good to her.
“I would feel like a hypocrite telling her not to,” she says in this month’s issue of Madison.
“Modelling hasn’t been awful for me. It’s been great! But I’m certainly not pushing her in that direction. She’s still really too young.”
But it doesn’t seem like Kaia is taking it all too seriously, if the anecdote Crawford shared with Madison is anything to go by.
“Kaia said to me, ‘Well maybe, I’ll model a little bit. You really don’t have to know how to do anything.’ I’m like, thanks!”
Crawford and her nightclub mogul husband, Rande Gerber, also have a 13-year-old son, Presley. Who she says takes more after his father than her, particularly when it comes to his approach to school work.
“Rande and I were raised differently. I think school is really important. I got straight A’s! It’s not that I expect my kids to get straight A’s, but I want them to do the best they can. My husband wasn’t that way with school. He just wanted to pass. It can be challenging. He’ll be like, ‘Cindy, he’s getting a C!’ And I’ll be like, ‘A C is not fine. A B is maybe fine!’”
The supermodel mother of two might not always see eye-to-eye with her husband of fifteen years but they agree on what counts most to them – raising happy, generous children.
“My greatest achievement in life will be making sure our kids go on to be happy. We want them to contribute, to be givers not takers.”
