Today Extra host David Campbell had an unexpected trip to hospital last night after his son Billy injured himself while making "a particularly spectacular jump off the couch".

The adventurous five-year-old fractured his arm during the "ninja kick" move but, on the bright side, ended up with "a pretty impressive cast", according to the father-of-three.

"Thank you to Dr Mitch, Tori and Gentle Bek at @sydneychildrens for looking after Billy and his fractured arm," the doting dad wrote on Instagram.

"Only tiny but still uncomfortable for him. He is impressed with the cast. A simple ninja kick off the couch was the cause. He will be back doing it in no time. #billy"
