Savoury Basmati Rice

- 2 cups basmati rice (white or brown)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 bay leaves
- 3 cardamon pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth (optional)
- 3 tbsp butter (optional)
This goes with many Asian dishes especially Indian curries. This one is so easy that your kids will even be able to cook without any help.
Rinse rice and place in rice cooker. Put all dry ingredients into cooker. Add broth, if using. Then top up with enough water according to rice cooker for 2 cups of rice. Stir well and cook rice.
After rice is cooked, let it stand for 5 minutes. Remove bay leaves, cardamon pods and cinnamon stick. Stir in cut up pieces of butter (optional). Serve warm.
