Ingredients

Sesame and Ginger Beef
3 tablespoons sesame oil
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons chopped spring onions (scallions)
60 g (2¼ oz) soft brown sugar
500 g (1 lb 2 oz) beef fillet
Method
- Combine the sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, spring onion and brown sugar in a non-metallic dish. Add the beef and coat well with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight if possible.
- Brown the beef on all sides on a very hot, lightly oiled barbecue grill or flat plate. When the beef is sealed, remove, wrap in foil and return to the barbecue, turning occasionally, for a further 15–20 minutes, depending on how well done you like your meat. Leave for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve immediately.
- Put the leftover marinade in a small saucepan and boil for 5 minutes. This is delicious served as a sauce with the beef.
