Toasted Cheese, Aioli and Ham
half a loaf ciabatta or Turkish bread
1 garlic clove, crushed
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
2–4 slices ham
8 chopped semi-dried tomatoes
1 tablespoon capers, chopped
4–6 slices cheddar cheese
Method
- Turn on the grill (broiler). Cut the bread in half horizontally and then into two equal pieces. Toast all the pieces. To make the aïli, mix the garlic into the mayonnaise and season it well with salt and pepper.
- Spread the aïli over the insides of each sandwich. Put a slice of ham on two of the pieces and then divide the semi-dried tomatoes and capers between them. Top with enough cheese slices to make a good layer and put them on a baking tray.
- Grill the sandwiches until the cheese melts and starts to bubble and then put the tops back on and press them down firmly.
- Cut each sandwich in half diagonally and enjoy.
