From sandpit to mosh pit

THE Big Day Out is often a wild rite of passage for music-loving teenagers - and now toddlers have one of their own.
Children ranging from one to 10 are the target audience for a Sydney music festival which will be staged over a full day.
The Kids Day Out is based on a similar format as the famed Big Day Out. ''But this time they'll probably be smuggling in red cordial,'' said James Rees, pictured, the star of ABC's Giggle and Hoot, who is one of the big names appearing on the day.
He is among 34 acts including Bananas in Pyjamas, Yo Gabba Gabba, Rob Mills from Young Talent Time and singer Timomatic, lining up for the event on March 3.
''There's a bit of hype about this, it's great,'' Rees said. ''You know, I've stood in a mosh pit in my day and this might not be that different, because it's generally older kids acting like young kids [at festivals].''
While the excitement of young children on the day might even result in a mini-mosh pit, ''there probably won't be any stage diving'', he added.
The event will be held across two main stages at the Sydney Showground at Olympic Park.
