James Van Der Beek feels like he's getting better with age!

The actor, who turned 44 recently, posted a slow motion video of him leaping across the screen on Instagram, sharing some of the things he's learned as he's gotten older.

"Creativity used to just be my joy. Then, at some point, it became the means to an end," he began the post, saying he's recognised now "joy as the end"  and "creativity as the key."

"With my forties has come the recognition that I'm a better father, better husband, better human when I open my heart to that creative spark and invite it into everything I do," he continued. "Because it doesn't matter the medium, the venue, or how it's received ... the magic is being in the flow."

The actor shares five children with his wife Kimberly, 10-year-old Olivia, Annabel Leah, seven, Emilia and Joshua who turn five and nine later this month, and Gwendolyn, two-and-a-half. The family relocated from LA to Texas in September 2020, citing some "drastic changes" in their life as propelling the big change.

"Sometimes a fuller life begins with an empty house," he captioned shots of their empty Beverly Hills house.  "Leaving Los Angeles incredibly grateful for all the friends and memories we've made here. Onto the next big adventure

"And... we've landed," he captioned the post detailing why they chose to move, alongside a picture of their new home in Texas.

"In the last ten months, we've had two late-term pregnancy losses, each of which put @vanderkimberly in the hospital, we spent Christmas break thinking she had a tumour (the doctor was wrong, thank god)," he explained. "I was prematurely booted off a reality dancing show I was favored to win in front of the whole world, and my mom died."

"And a shut-down," he continued. " All of that led to some drastic changes in our lives, and dreams, and priorities... and landed us here. Overflowing with profound gratitude today."
