James Van Der Beek's daughter had to be rushed to the ER after hitting her head.

The Dawson's Creek star's fourth child Emilia, four, suffered a nasty laceration after hitting her head on a table.

Posting a photo to her Instagram stories, Kimberley Van Der Beek said it had been a stressful situation but the little girl had coped well.

"Emilia hit her head on a table. Needed to be glued..." she captioned the pic. "@vikcompletecare_er ONCE AGAIN delivers the ultimate in care."

A second pic showed a close up of the cut, just beneath the little girl's eyebrow, saying while not serious, it had needed medical attention.

"Not terrible but not an air heal situation. She breathed through it all and the doctors and nurses here have had a (100 per cent) success rate with us of handling situations with fully informed decision offerings, friendliness and care. These two were scared and immediately comforted and commented out the door how 'amazing' they were."

The hospital is located near Austin, where the family relocated to from Los Angeles late last year, following a year of personal tragedy

Kimberley suffered two miscarriages, both of which required hospital stays, while Van Der Beek recently lost his mother, all factors he said in September last year had caused the family to reassess their priorities.

The move appears to be going well for the family, which also includes Olivia, 10, Joshua, eight, Annabel, seven and Gwendolyn, two.

Van Der Beek this week even let Annabel play hairdresser as she gave him a home DIY haircut which he joked left him looking like Professor Snape from Harry Potter.
